Oct 23, 2026

Happy Friday,

Families, next Friday, October 30, is Homecoming! We will begin the morning with a pep rally honoring all our competitive teams. Our students put countless hours into practicing, preparing, and representing Marshall, and I look forward to giving them some well-deserved recognition.

That evening, our football team takes on Eagle Rock with the Northern League championship on the line. Our Barristers are now 9–0, our best record ever as a football team! I am incredibly proud of our players and how they have come together this season.

Senior quarterback Nathaniel Cadet has been a big part of that success, with 16 touchdown passes and six rushing touchdowns in the posted stats. Against Lincoln, he threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more! Sophomore Sage Lindner has also stepped up, scoring eight touchdowns—five rushing and three receiving. His 101 rushing yards on just 11 carries helped us pull out that tight 8–6 win over Franklin. These two have given us some exciting moments this season!

Jordan Walker has been another major playmaker, averaging more than 108 rushing yards per game with 12 touchdowns. Luis Gonzalez leads our receivers at 48 yards per game, with Henry Sacre adding four receiving touchdowns. On defense, Emmanuel Garcia is averaging nearly seven tackles per game, while Joshua Parra and Matthew Solorzano each have two interceptions. And a big shout-out to our linemen, who do the hard work that makes those big plays possible! This has been a whole-team effort.

I also want to recognize Coach Razo and all his assistant coaches. A season like this takes a tremendous amount of preparation and commitment. Thank you for the hours you invest in our students and for helping them grow as players, teammates, and young men.

Homecoming brings generations of Barristers together. Alumni return, families reconnect, and our students help carry on the traditions that make Marshall special. Years from now, I hope our students come back and remember the excitement of this season and the community that showed up for them.

I hope to see many of you in the stands. Wear your Marshall gear and bring your school spirit. Our team has given us plenty to cheer about—let’s give them a great crowd! Go Barristers!

Yours in service,

Juan Puentes
Principal, Marshall High School

Noise Makers Banned at Games

Families, we want plenty of cheering at Homecoming and throughout the playoffs! Please remember that CIF Los Angeles City Section rules prohibit artificial noisemakers during live play, including horns, cowbells, whistles, and amplified devices. To keep our games running smoothly, artificial noisemakers will not be permitted at our Homecoming or playoff games. Please leave these items at home and bring your voices, applause, and Barrister spirit. Thank you for helping us support our teams with good sportsmanship. Go Barristers!

Poetry Night Poetry Night

What an amazing Poetry Night! Our students shared their original poems, and I was impressed by their creativity, honesty, and willingness to share a piece of themselves with an audience. A big shout-out to our student poets: Alondra Arauz, Evelina Sargasyan, Vincent Gonzalez-Celaya, Jayden Vasquez-Campos, Marlowe Philips, Anthony Del Cid, Antonio Alvarado Leon, Nicholas Wilson, and Etienne Bulluck. Thank you as well to our emcees, Lourdes Delamora and Niamh Boland, and our student tech crew for helping the evening run smoothly.

We also welcomed Marshall alumna and special guest poet Yesika Salgado, who read her poetry. It was wonderful to have her back on campus and for our students to see where their own writing might take them. A big thank-you to Ms. Pfeffer, our English Department, and our PTSA for working together to coordinate such a special evening. We have some talented poets here at Marshall!

We use campus service hours as an alternative consequence for school infractions, giving students an opportunity to take responsibility, contribute to our school community, and get back on track.

Students must have ZERO outstanding campus service hours to attend the Homecoming games and dance. Please check with your student now so they have time to complete any hours they owe.

Students can check Schoology for hours assigned through the Attendance and Deans’ offices.

Students can complete one hour after school each day, two hours on Tuesdays, or work off hours by attending Saturday School. Please contact Ms. Chavez in the Climate Office to confirm outstanding hours and get the list of available options.
