May 22 - School Board Workshop
Dear RSU 21 Community,
You are all invited to join us for a School Board workshop on Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 PM at Kennebunk Elementary School in the School Board Room (A102).
This workshop will focus on the role of technology in education and how we can best prepare students for success in an increasingly technology-driven world while maintaining strong instructional foundations.
The evening will feature a moderated panel discussion with educators, former students, workforce representatives, mental health professionals, and other community voices. Topics will include age-appropriate technology use, digital citizenship, artificial intelligence in education, student readiness for college and careers, and the impact of technology on student well-being.
The workshop will begin with prepared questions from the School Board, followed by an opportunity for community members to participate in a public Q&A session. Our goal is to encourage thoughtful dialogue, hear a range of perspectives, and help guide future decisions that support student learning and success.
We hope you will join us.
Best,
Martin Grimm
Community Spotlight
Tooth Fairies are Real!
This week's submission was actually submitted by a few people from different places-- it's a district wide community spotlight! Students across the district were able to visit some very kind and very talented people who certainly know how to produce a smile. Here is this week's submission:
Smilecraft Dental provided dental services to 32 students last Friday. The team came together on their day off to take care of the kids in our community. School nurses, SRO's, and the Bus Barn all came together to make the day happen. So stinkin cool!
Nothing "stinkin" about it! Let's give a massive round of applause for the kind people of Smilecraft Dental as well as all of our staff who helped coordinate the event and provide transportation.
*In our newest segment, The RSU 21 Community News will be highlighting anyone in our community (employee, student, or volunteer) that YOU think has done or consistently does something spectacular. To make a submission, please fill out this very brief form. *
Around the District - RSU 21 Highlights
Kennebunk Elementary School - The KES kindergarten team welcomed 12 fluffy new chicks to their classrooms this week after hatching eggs as part of a hands-on science experience. Students have eagerly observed the incubation process since late April, learning many important lessons about life cycles, animal needs, and, most of all, patience. Mrs. Baker-Koch live streamed the hatching event so students throughout the school could follow along and share in the excitement as the chicks began to pip and zip out of their eggs. The chicks will be returned this weekend to Carroll Family Farm, whose support made this entire project possible!
Mildred L. Day School - Mildred L. Day Elementary School recently wrapped up its three-week state testing cycle — and what better way to celebrate than with a school-wide ice cream social! Students and staff came together to enjoy a well-deserved treat in recognition of the incredible perseverance, focus, and commitment to learning demonstrated by everyone in the MLD community throughout the testing season. From the youngest learners to the most seasoned educators, the dedication shown these past three weeks was nothing short of remarkable — and the smiles and laughter shared over ice cream said it all. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the MLD Parent Teacher Organization for their generous support in making this celebration possible. Events like this are a beautiful reminder of what makes our school community so special. It's safe to say — a great time was had by all!
Kennebunkport Consolidated School - KCS staff members had a fun week with an undercover spirit week. Ask your children if they notice staff wearing anything different this week, such as sunglasses or construction gear. Students seemed to enjoy it along with us!
Sea Road School - Sea Road School was excited to host our annual Grandperson’s Day luncheon this week! It was so nice to welcome so many grandparents, family members, and special friends into the building for this special event. The day was filled with lots of smiles, laughter, and great conversations as students had the chance to share part of their school day with some of the important people in their lives. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special for our students!
Middle School of the Kennebunks - A big shout out to all MSK students for their effort on our spring state assessments. This week we wrapped up the testing for grades 6-8. Our students worked very hard and their effort is to be congratulated. Also, we want to extend our apprecatiion for all community members who took part in making our Career Day an amazing success. Lastly, both the Spanish and French Markets were an amazing success this week. Thank you to all students and staff for making this possible.
Kennebunk High School - Seniors are out on their Senior Projects starting this week. We are finishing up with IB and AP testing and graduation is right around the corner. Performances of the Outsiders are taking place this weekend in the KHS Theater.
