Microsoft Whiteboard + Teacher iPad = Mobility

Microsoft Whiteboard is an online whiteboard associated with your Microsoft account. You can access it through the Microsoft Store from your board, as well as from the app store on your iPad. The great thing about having MS Whiteboard in both places is you are able to access the same whiteboard open on your iPad and your board, then whatever you write on your iPad will simultaneously appear on your board. That means you are free to move around your classroom while writing on your board! How cool is that? If you would like more information on this feature or help using MS Whiteboard, contact your friendly IT today.

Attention All 4th and 5th Grade ELAR Teachers

The EMSISD 4th and 5th grade Poetry Slam is back! We had such a great time doing it the first time, we can't wait to see what great poems will be created this year. All 4th and 5th grade ELA/Reading classes are invited and encouraged to participate. Participation is easy! Students write and recite their poems in class. Then the top two poems in the class will be submitted through Flipgrid to compete in the district slam. The competition will be held live in February right after your Poetry unit. Submissions will be judged by select librarians and district personnel. Winners will receive a certificate and prizes. Remember, submissions can be done anytime between now and our competition in February. If you are interested in hosting our live-streamed competition on your campus, please email Bob Eikenberry at reikenberry@ems-isd.net. The competition rubric is attached below.

  1. Go to your gradebook and find the assignment.
  2. Click on the 3 dots next to the assignment title and select "Message Students Who" from the drop down.
  3. From the drop down, select "Haven't been graded." All ungraded students should appear below.
  4. You can change the subject for your email and write your email below.

BOO-Yah!! Halloween themed Time to Climb is Back

Time to Climb is an awesome quiz based activity in Nearpod that encourages engagement and competition. Students choose an avatar and race to the top of a hill by answering quiz questions correctly. Kids love it because it is a chance for them to compete with classmates. Teachers love it because it is extremely engaging and easy to create. And now, back by popular demand, you have the option to choose a Halloween themed race where student avatars are pumpkin heads, ghosts and ghouls. Your students will have a blast racing to the top of a creepy mountain AND they will be demonstrating mastery that can easily be tracked and documented. It's a win/win!

Do you type/text using both hands? Try a split keyboard

When you type on your phone, it is fairly simple to use both hands (thumbs) in order to increase speed and efficiency. An iPad, however, is a different story unless you have extremely long thumbs. There is good news for all of us who are thumb length challenged. You can split the keyboard. All you have to do is long press on the keyboard icon and choose split. Half the keyboard will move right while the other half moves left.
