MS. DANA!
Thank you so much for your role with our attendance initiative. We appreciate all that you do.
Ms. Dana will be tracking the attendance and displaying it on an Atttendance Bulletin Board. This will be our monthly competition for attendance, where classes can earn a pizza party or popsicle party for the attendance percentages. Ms. Dana will also work with students that have missed 10 days of school. She will check-in with their families and lead the 20 Day Attendance Challenge Plan.
MRS. BROWN!
Let's give a big welcome to our MTSS Co-chair, Mrs. Borwn. We appreciate you accepting this leadership role. We are so excited to see you in action. You have some amazing ideas and skills.
TITLE ONE TUTORS!
Thank you to Ms. Alexander, Ms. Lipsey, Ms. Selena, and Ms. Alicia! We are grateful for you and appreciate your support in helping to make sure that our students were able to complete their tests.
ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Our goal is help all of our students attend school on a consistent basis. Regular attendance creates a positive classroom community between teachers and children. Students who attend school are more likely to succeed academically. Students gain background knowledge from discussions while learning in school. Attending school also provides time for social interactions with peers.
We know that some of our students and families have barriers that may prevent them from attending school regularly. Our Attendance committee aims to not judge our families with barriers, but support the need. As a commitee, we are tracking students that have 3, 5, 10, and 15 days of unexcused absences. We encourage staff who recognize a students is struggling with attendance, to reach out to families to offer support.
Chronic absenteeism, is defined as missing at least 10 percent of days in a school year for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences. For example, a student who misses as few as two days per month for each month of the school year is described as being chronically absent. In a school year, that’s 18 to 20 total missed school days.
To help motivate our students and families, we are going to also have incentives for displaying good attendance.
Our Attendance Data
406 students at Woods Lake have an attendance percentage that is equal to 90% or higher! This is great, and we want to keep motivating these students to attend school.
However, we have 111 students that have an attendance percentage rate that is less than 90%. This is 27% of our total school population that have attendance concerns already. We still have time to help them improve their attendance percentages.

CURRICULUM MATTERS
We are striving to make sure all of our students are receiving tiered-one instruction using the districted mandated curriculum consistenty. It is crucial that all of our students are exposed to tiered-one grade-level instruction as well as small group instruction to meet their individualized needs. As a team, it is our shared belief that all students are capable of academic success, and we must nagivate a path to ensure we are meeting the district expectations
Please reach out for support, if you are not aware of the curriculum and/or need support implementing tiered-one instruction.
