Coyote News #4
Message From Liz
I hope everyone had a great Intersession! Some of our Coyotes spent the week with us for Academic Intersession, while others participated in Enrichment Intersession or had time away. Academic Intersession provided important additional learning time for students, and I am grateful for the teachers, staff, students, and families who made that work possible. Now that everyone is back, we have jumped right back into our routines and the important learning ahead. Students are reconnecting with their teachers and classmates, settling back in, and already doing some great work.
Parent Conferences are coming up soon. These conferences are an important opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher about their learning, progress, and next steps. Teachers will share conference dates and sign-up information in their family letters, so please be on the lookout for those details.
I am happy to have all of our Coyotes back together and excited for all the learning and experiences ahead. Thank you for the many ways you continue to support our students, our teachers, and Carlson!
Fall Picture Retakes: 10/27
We have a list of students who were absent on Picture Day, and we’ll make sure they are photographed during the upcoming retake session. If your child was absent, you do not need to sign them up—they are already scheduled for a retake.
However, if you’ve reviewed your child’s photo proofs and would like them to retake their fall picture, please use the sign-up link below to schedule a retake.
Mathoween: 10/29 from 5:30-7:00
New Family Guide: Letter M
Halloween at Alice Carlson is a bit non-traditional, which makes it all the more fun!
Mathoween is an evening of math and clever costumes. In the weeks leading up to Mathoween, each class works together to create its own math experience.
On the night of Mathoween, students are expected to work a shift. When your child is not working, we ask that you actively participate in the experience alongside them. Mathoween is really about our students sharing their learning and teaching one another, their families, and our outside audience about how we do math at Carlson.
To make the evening even more fun, students come dressed in math-themed costumes. Think Acute Witch, The Count, a Pi-lot, or Pi-rate!
Gifted and Talented Parent Referral: Closing on 10/30
Field Day: 11/6 from 12:15-2:45
New Family Guide: Letter F
Field Day is held on the open sports field behind the school during school hours. True to
Carlson fashion, it is a unique event that gives students a chance to lead, work in a team,
use their imaginations, get moving and have a great time. Students rotate through stations
to participate in wonderfully novel games based on a chosen theme for that year. It is a
great way to foster a sense of community among all classes and age groups. 5th
grade students lead each team along with teachers and parent volunteers.
Super Heroes Assemble!
We’re excited to celebrate the season with a festive Field Day! Students are encouraged to wear superhero shirts. Please, no capes or accessories. We want everyone to be safe and comfortable throughout the day. Field Day will include lots of high-energy activities, including running and jumping, so please make sure students wear clothing and shoes that are comfortable and appropriate for movement and outdoor play.
Let’s make it a safe, fun, and spirited for all!
Field Day Visitors
You are welcome to attend Field Day. Please come to the canopy door to check in with a staff member. Then, make your way to the field. We will begin heading outside at 12:15. Events begin at 12:30. Ensure your visitor tag is visible, indicating that you are checked in.
No Early Dismissals
Because each Field Day team includes students from Kindergarten through 5th grade, we will not honor early dismissals during or after the event.
After Field Day, students will return to designated areas inside the building to prepare for regular dismissal. Families may proceed to their grade-level dismissal location outside or enter the car line as usual.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure a safe and organized dismissal for all students.
