Principal's Message - Mr. Mercer
Greetings Century Academy community! The school year is off to a fast start and we are excited to support our students and families in their academic journey. A safe and productive learning environment continues to be our priority. Please be sure to have students bring their ID badges with them and check in at the front office every time they are on campus. Check ins are also required for parents/guardians who are entering campus. You must check in with our front office and receive a badge each time you arrive to campus prior to entering campus. Thank you for helping to keep our campus safe.
Attendance and positive work production is another priority for Century Academy students. Our goal is to have over 90% average daily attendance each week throughout the school year, which includes the weekly submission of assignments for all classes. Please encourage your student to meet their weekly requirements and submit their assignments in Schools PLP every Friday by 3pm each week. A good night sleep and early morning routine are positive factors to ensure that your student(s) are meeting their obligations as per the Independent Study contract.
Please see below for our upcoming events. We appreciate your support in our community events and fundraisers.
Don't forget: Monday September 21st and Friday October 2nd are both non-instructional days. Students are not expected to engage in any school work on those days, however, they can use those days to catch up on assignments if they choose.
Please read this communication in its entirety. There is important information regarding PSAT, Leadership, Fundraisers and other essential information within. Thank you for your continued support of Century/SHINE. Let’s have a great school year!
PSAT Registration for grades 9-10
Parents, please note that you can only open the registration form with your student’s learn.conejousd.net account.
PSAT is scheduled for October 7, 2026, at 10am in the Annex - A2 at Conejo Valley High School on Janss Road.
Students in grades 9-10 may take the PSAT/NMSQT for a $30 fee ($1 for FARL students that want to pay via the parent portal.)
Registration/payment is through the Q Parent Portal. Paypal processes the fees, so a credit/debit card or a bank account is required. Instructions are available here: https://tinyurl.com/PSATQSteps. Students who qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch (National School Lunch) Program and all AVID students may take the exam for free. Please contact our counselor, Rachel Kelterer, if you are unsure of your payment status.
The online PSAT/NMSQT helps students prepare for the SAT because:
Students can become familiar with the types of questions in reading, writing, and math and the directions they will see on the SAT.
The PSAT/NMSQT assesses skills developed through years of study in a wide range of courses as well as through experiences outside the classroom. It is many students’ first official step on the path to college.
The PSAT/NMSQT allows individual students to compare their ability to do college work with other college-bound students, helps them set goals, and plan for their future
Once registration is complete, your student can follow this link to the College Board website for practice exams and additional information: Student Info and Practice. If there are still unanswered questions, please contact our counselor, Rachel Kelterer.
To be prepared on exam day, students must arrive with (1) a fully-charged, school-owned Chromebook with the latest version of the BlueBook testing app and the readiness check complete and (2) a valid photo ID. Also recommended is a small snack/drink for the break. Scratch paper, pencils, and log-in information will be supplied. No other electronics, including cell phones, are permitted in the testing room.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
We still have a few students that need to check out a chrome book. Please note that CVUSD students must use district issued devices. The last date to secure a district device is Friday, September 18th.

Student Fees, Donations, and Fundraising:
Section 5 of Article IX of the State of California Constitution guarantees students a “free public education.” The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell (35 Cal.3d.899 (1984)), “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extra-curricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities.” This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State Constitution.” Furthermore, they also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged so long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay.”
