TSD Weekly Newsletter
September 18, 2026

The Troy School District is developing a new strategic plan that will guide our priorities, goals, and decisions for the next several years, and staff input is essential to this process.
We want to hear what you believe is working well in the Troy School District, where we have opportunities to improve, what challenges we need to address, and what should be prioritized as we look to the future.
Staff & community members are invited to participate in a Strategic Planning Feedback Session. Please see session details below:
Wednesday, September 23
Secondary Staff
3:30–4:30 p.m.
Elementary Staff
4:30–5:30 p.m.
Community Session
6–7 p.m.
All meetings will be held at the Troy School District Services Building (4420 Livernois Road, Troy) in the Board Room.
Your feedback will be combined with input from our middle and high school students, parents, community members, administrators, and the Board of Education. Together, these perspectives will help identify themes and shape the district’s future priorities and goals.
Come ready to share your perspective, listen to your colleagues, and help us think about what comes next for TSD. We want to hear what matters most to the people who know our schools best.
If you are not able to join us, we would still love to hear from you. Please complete the following survey https://masb.jotform.com/form/troysp26. The survey will close on October 19.
Thank you in advance for your time and feedback!

Building Belonging Across OneTroy
Troy School District is partnering with Defeat the Label during the 2026–27 school year to strengthen belonging, student agency, and healthy school communities across OneTroy. Following successful pilots in our elementary and secondary schools, and informed by the voices of students, families, staff, and community partners, this districtwide effort offers a shared approach to preventing bullying, strengthening Upstander behavior, and responding to harm.
What Will This Look Like for OneTroy?
- Upper Elementary - Six in-person Upstander lessons focused on empathy, resilience, recognizing bullying, and practicing safe ways to speak up and support others.
- Middle School - Eight Upstander sessions focused on peer accountability, digital citizenship, belonging, and responding to bullying or bias.
- High School - Eight One Table: Leadership for Belonging sessions that will bring together diverse student cohorts to build dialogue, agency, leadership, and shared responsibility for school culture.
- Families and Community - A four-part workshop series offering practical learning and conversation, including Raising Upstanders and The Digital Playground. Additional topics and dates will be announced.
- Staff, Schools, Departments, and Teams - Aligned learning and implementation support connecting this work with restorative practices, BIST, wellness, student voice, school culture and responsiveness, and district processes for responding to harm and bias.
What Comes Next
District and building teams are mapping implementation schedules now. Families will hear more as dates, participating student groups, school-specific plans, and community learning opportunities are finalized. We invite our families and broader community to learn with us, participate in upcoming sessions, and help us continue building this work together.

Career Readiness Corner
Kickoff: What is Career Readiness?
Welcome to a New Year of Career Readiness!
This year, the Career Readiness Corner will appear monthly in the Troy Schools newsletter, spotlighting the programs, resources, and opportunities that help your student build a path toward their future — starting in kindergarten and continuing all the way through senior year.
What is an EDP?
Every Troy Schools student, grades 6-12, has an Educational Development Plan (EDP) built through Xello, our districtwide career-exploration platform. Younger students explore Michigan's Six Career Zones (Arts & Communication; Business, Management, Marketing & Technology; Engineering/Manufacturing & Industrial Technology; Health Sciences; Human Services; Natural Resources & Agriscience), while students in grades 6-12 dig into the state's 17 Career Clusters as they begin identifying interests, strengths, and possible career paths. Log in to Xello with your student this month and explore just one career interest together — it only takes a few minutes and opens up a great dinner-table conversation.
October Spotlight: National Manufacturing Month
October is National Manufacturing Month and Careers in Construction Month — a perfect time to highlight our Engineering/Manufacturing & Industrial Technology pathway. Students in this cluster gain hands-on experience with the design, production, and skilled-trades careers that power Michigan's economy, from advanced manufacturing to architecture and design.
Upcoming Events
On October 2nd, students from Troy High, Athens, and TCCHS will take part in Manufacturing Day. We would like to thank Signarama, Complete Automation and 3 Dimensional Services Group for opening their doors to allow our students to tour their facilities and learn about the exciting opportunities in the field of advanced manufacturing.
Optional iPad Insurance Window Open
Each student with an assigned 1:1 iPad who wishes to participate in the Troy School District 1:1 Device Insurance Program will be required to pay an annual insurance premium of $25 per student, not to exceed $100 per family. Kindergarten through 3rd grade students have classroom sets of iPads that are generally not brought home, thus, no personal insurance is needed.
