Hello Au Gres-Sims Families,

Last night, at the Board of Education meeting, a couple of items were taken action on of note for our families. First is that the board moved for a temporary relaxing of an aspect of our grading policy that enables the schools to work with students that otherwise may not have had the chance to earn credit. In light of all that has happened this year, this was a great move by our board of education to be flexible and understanding while still maintaining a high level of rigor in our academic programming.

The second major item of note is a slight change to the school calendar. Action was taken at this meeting to ensure that families will have enough time to plan accordingly. On our original calendar we were scheduled for early release on January 13 and 14. Wednesdays remain virtual for our whole campus, however, so a change has been made to the exam schedule. After the board action last night, Tuesday, January 12th will be an early dismissal/exam day for all of our students. The school day will end at 1:45 pm.

On December 31st we will say goodbye to two long-serving Board of Education members. Nancy Selle leaves her position to take up a new post as the new county clerk after 10 years on our board. Heather Garry will complete her term after serving for 11 years. AGS owes both of these people a huge debt of gratitude for their service and we wish them well.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. Though this year has a challenge and the holidays will need to look different, this is the season that we reflect on the blessings that we have in our life. My hope for everyone this Christmas season is that you are able to appreciate all of the wonderful things in your life and celebrate them in the safest possible way.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone and we will see you back here on January 4, 2021.

As we head into the holiday break I am wishing all of you a joyful and relaxing time with your families as you build memories that will last forever. Don’t feel guilty for one second as you binge watch Netflix, play games with your family, listen intently as your partner talks, eat another cookie, or put off a house chore until tomorrow. This family time is much deserved! I look forward to reconnecting with you after the break! Happy Holidays!

From the Desk of Mrs. Socha

As we wrap up the end of one of the most unusual and challenging years in recent history, it is almost difficult to reflect on what has happened when it seems so much more appropriate to dash to some imaginary finish line that is 2021. However, I feel like it would be a disservice to all that we have learned from the year 2020. I personally have had to learn to be more flexible and “go with the flow” as things this year have changed on a constant basis, making us think and rethink things over and over again. As a girl who likes to have a plan, that has been tough! However, I have also learned to not take for granted the little things in life, the people that I love to spend time with, and even the luxury of school in the manner that we are accustomed to. This has been a learning curve for all of us, and new territory that we have never experienced before. We appreciate your support, patience, and effort over this past year, and I hope that you all are able to take the break to relax, unwind, and experience those little joys in life. I wish you and your family and Happy Holiday season and a very bright New Year. Here’s to 2021!
