Principals' Message Principals' Message

Dear SCS Families and Caregivers,

First of all, THANK YOU for your support of the 2026-27 CVSD School Budget. We are grateful for the outcome, especially after two years of steep reductions. Our faculty and staff are breathing easier and grateful to begin planning in earnest for the 2026-27 school year.

We are thrilled to share that our entire school community (PreK-8) is moving to PickUp Patrol, a convenient online platform designed to make the daily attendance and dismissal change reporting process safer and more efficient for everyone. We’ve been piloting it since January in several classes, and the reports are overwhelmingly positive.

This new platform replaces the need for emails and phone calls to the main office, allowing you to manage your child(ren)’s dismissal plans directly from your smartphone or computer. This also saves the human resource hours of taking the call / responding to an email and relaying that message to the classroom, which will free up our main office team to do other things in support of kids. If you’ve ever been in the main office, you know how busy it can get, and we appreciate your help easing this burden!

We’re excited to have a more organized system to ensure every student gets exactly where they need to go. Please be on the lookout for an email with instructions for how to enter your child(ren)’s default dismissal plans next week. We will have the system up and running on Monday, March 16.

In other pickup/dropoff news, we are seeing a pattern of early drop-offs when we do not have staff on campus to supervise. Please refrain from dropping children off at Morning Movement before 7:25. All cars dropping off must use the School Street doors to reduce the congestion in the staff parking lot as staff are trying to arrive. Wednesday Ski Drop off should also take place at the school street drop off. We have buses rolling into the bus circle on Wednesday morning, and we need to keep that area clear for them.

We’ll reach out individually when we can but wanted to share these universal reminders as well. Thank you for your help in keeping our complex system moving as smoothly as possible!

In partnership,

Antonia, Jen and Brett

Readathon Roundup –Great Reading, SCS!

Congratulations, SCS readers! Our fourth school-wide readathon ended on Wednesday, and it was a great success. Together we read for 245,614 minutes! That’s over 68,000 more than last year! EVERY grade level logged impressive minutes to help us blow past our goal. And we raised $13,655 for SCS. Awesome job, everyone!

And now, the winners of the silly string challenge are…

  • The middle level class that read the most was Vasanthi’s class (5th/6th grade, blue team) with 10,655 minutes. See them dousing Mr. Cluff in silly string below!

  • The elementary class that read the most was Ms. Emerson’s class (4th grade) with 33,362 minutes. They will silly string Ms. Roth on Monday!

Big shout out to the following classes, who all read more than 10,000 minutes!

  • Cadwell (4th), Tomaino (4th), West (2nd), Bartell (4th), Pinillos (K), Hazen (K), Maynard (1st)

And kudos to all 300+ readers who added minutes to our total!

Thank you to all the students, teachers, staff members, administrators, parents, and caregivers who pitched in to make the readathon a success and who support a love of reading in our school community every day. Special thanks to Ms. Lucia and Ms. Fiona in the SCS library, Katie Bosley and the Pierson Library staff, the Shelburne Country Store, The Flying Pig, Village Wine & Coffee, The Scoop, the Shelburne Field House, and the Readathon planning committee. It was a team effort!

If you’d like to, please take a minute to share your feedback on the 2026 readathon to help with planning for next year’s readathon and other future events.

Keep reading, SCS!

SCS students and alumni were well represented at Shelburne Town Meeting on Tuesday night. Several students were part of the color guard that kicked off the meeting, a group of 4th graders sang the national anthem, and our town's Junior Poet Laureate, sixth grader Roman Strayer-Benton, shared one of his poems.

On Friday before our winter break, SCS 5-8 students participated in a variety of activities as part of their Winter Field Day. Lots of students spent time outdoors playing games, roasting marshmallows, and skiing while other students enjoyed board games and basketball indoors. It was a great afternoon of continuing to build connections across our middle level community.
