Falcon Update

Dear HMS Families,

We had a wonderful Veterans Day Assembly. We appreciate everyone who made the event a success!

This upcoming week, we will be having our Family Day. Families are welcome to come to Heritage on Tuesday, November 18th, from 9:15 to 10:45 AM. Families will be able to attend part of their child's Period 2 and 3 class and then participate in an activity with their child. Please come for the whole time or part of the time, whatever works for your schedule.

Earlier this month, we shared that our school report card showed Heritage needs to continue focusing on attendance. We have been looking at our attendance for Quarter 1 and the start of Quarter 2. In the coming weeks, we will increase our communication with families whose students are approaching the chronic absenteeism threshold so we can work together.

Here are some important facts about attendance from Attendance Works:

•By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.

•Missing 10% (just 2 days each month) can drastically affect a student’s academic success. •Attendance is an important life skill that will help your teen keep a job and graduate from college.

We are also excited to start our December attendance incentive, which we will announce to students right before we leave for Thanksgiving break!

The 2025-2026 yearbooks are officially available! If you are interested in purchasing one, you can use this link. Please make sure to save your receipt and let your student know you have purchased a yearbook for them. They will be delivered to the school in May to be distributed to your student before leaving for the year. Our school is excited to provide each student with an iPad to support learning both in and out of the classroom. In order to ensure that devices are used responsibly and remain in good condition, we ask families and students to review the Digital Agreement by filling out this Google Form.

We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!

This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.

Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.

Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
