Premier by Design: Connecting Education to the Workforce
At Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy, we believe preparing students for successful futures requires strong partnerships between education and industry. On Tuesday, October 20, we will welcome our business and industry partners for TCTA: Premier by Design, our first joint Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Committee Meeting of the school year.
During this important gathering, industry professionals will collaborate with our educators to identify the knowledge students need, the skills they must develop, and the ways they can demonstrate their readiness for the workforce. These conversations will help us ensure that the learning experiences we provide remain relevant, rigorous, and aligned with the evolving expectations of today's industries.
What does this mean for your student? It means we are being intentional about connecting classroom learning to real-world opportunities. By listening to those who work in the industries our students aspire to enter, we can strengthen our programs, create more meaningful learning experiences, and better prepare students for college, careers, and life beyond graduation.
At TCTA, Premier by Design is more than the name of a meeting. It reflects our commitment to designing educational experiences that position every student for success.
Prepared. Proven. Premier.
Tuscaloosa City Schools Is Phone-Free in 2026–2027
To comply with state legislation (SB92), the Tuscaloosa City Schools system is now phone-free. That means all personal electronic devices belonging to students—including phones, laptops, iPads, and smartwatches—must be turned off and stored away during the school day. TCTA is embracing this opportunity to prepare students for the workforce.
Safety is a Priority
On last school year, TCTA participated in the single-point entry safety checks on a monthly basis. We are continuing our participation on this school year. Those checks are performed at all high schools and are staffed by a security firm hired by TCS. An administrator is on site during the checks in a support capacity. We are asking parents to pick up items that are confiscated by the firm.
In addition to the single-point entry checks, TCTA administrators and team members perform metal detector and cell phone checks daily. Any phones found in use by students will be retrieve by administration and parents will be asked to pick up the phone on the first offence. Subsequent offences will result in disciplinary action as descripted in the code of conduct.
