I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to our Year 12 students on their exceptional performance during the recent HSC Trial Examinations. The dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment you have shown throughout this demanding period are a true testament to your character and hard work. Your approach to these exams, characterised by a collaborative spirit and a focus on supporting one another, has made the entire St Benedict's community incredibly proud. As you now pivot your attention to the final preparations for your HSC, please know that we are all behind you, cheering you on every step of the way. Your efforts have laid a strong foundation, and we are confident in your ability to achieve great things in the final exams.

This week also marks a significant milestone for our Year 11 students as we officially launch the 2026 Year 12 Student Leadership Process. This is an exciting and pivotal time for these students to consider how they can contribute to the future direction of our college. We believe that leadership is not just a title, but a commitment to service, integrity, and fostering a positive school culture. The process is designed to help students identify their strengths and develop the skills necessary to be effective and compassionate leaders. I encourage all eligible students to seize this opportunity with enthusiasm and to thoughtfully reflect on the potential they have to make a lasting impact on the St Benedict's community.

Next week, our focus will shift to a theme that is central to everything we do at the college: wellbeing. We are excited to announce our annual Wellbeing Week, a dedicated time to highlight the critical importance of looking after our mental, physical, and emotional health. In today's fast-paced world, it's more important than ever to consciously prioritise our wellbeing, as it is the foundation upon which all our learning, growth, and relationships are built. We have organised a diverse range of activities and resources for students and staff alike, all aimed at promoting healthy habits and providing practical tools for self-care. I urge everyone to engage fully with the week's events and to use this time to reflect on your own personal wellbeing journey. Please note that Friday is a Pupil-free day.

Finally, I would like to extend a warm and heartfelt invitation to all parents and friends to join us for our next P&F meeting. The meeting will be held this coming Tuesday evening at 6:00pm in the College Library. These gatherings are a vital part of our college life, providing a platform for us to share ideas, discuss important initiatives, and work together to enhance the educational experience for all our students. Your insights and support are truly invaluable, and we deeply appreciate your involvement.

Greetings All,

Navigating the digital world can be challenging, but the eSafety Commissioner is an invaluable guide. At St. Benedict’s, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students—both in the classroom and online.

The eSafety Commissioner is Australia’s independent regulator for online safety, working to protect individuals from a range of digital harms. The focus of the commission is to both educate Australians about emerging online risks and to help remove harmful content. This includes tackling issues such as cyberbullying, adult cyber abuse, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images or videos.

In today’s connected world, it’s essential that parents and carers have the knowledge and tools to help children navigate online spaces safely. eSafety offers clear, practical advice designed for families, covering everything from understanding online threats—like cyberbullying, grooming, and inappropriate content—to setting up safe digital environments with privacy controls, parental settings, and healthy screen time limits.

We encourage you to explore their dedicated Parents and Carers section at www.esafety.gov.au/parents. You’ll find tips on starting open conversations with your children about online safety, along with step-by-step instructions for reporting harmful content or behaviour.

By familiarising yourself with these resources, you can strengthen your family’s approach to online safety. And remember—if you have any concerns about your child’s online experiences, please contact the school. We’re here to listen, support, and work together to ensure the wellbeing of every student.

Term 3 has been filled with energy, faith, and exciting new chapters for our community.

Our Year 12 students have just about completed their HSC Trial Examinations, a huge milestone in their final year of schooling. We are so proud of the way they have approached this challenge with determination, focus, and support for one another. As they move into the last weeks before the HSC, we continue to cheer them on and keep them in our prayers.

This week we joyfully celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A group of our Youth Ministry Leaders attended Mass at St Mary MacKillop Parish, Oran Park, while the rest of the College gathered in STRIVE classes for a special liturgy. Perhaps this feast offers us an invitation to reflect on what it means to be a faithful disciple in the contemporary world. The Gospel for this feast gives us some clues: we are called to pray, to be a blessing for one another, and to proclaim joy. In other words, we are invited to live out God’s presence in the everyday moments of our lives. So, let us be joyful missionary disciples.

May we keep the wisdom of Mary in our thoughts.

May we hear the whispers of God in our hearts.

May we turn our hands to service.

And may we, inspired by the witness of Mary,

respond generously to the blessings of God that surround us.

Next week promises to be one of the highlights of the year as we celebrate Wellbeing Week and our College Feast Day celebrations. Our Feast Day will feature the official launch and first community singing of our new College Song, We Are Bennies, created by Brandon O’Donnell. This will be a wonderful moment of pride, faith and unity for our community, A song that will inspire us for years to come. I absolutely love it and I am sure the students and families will too.

On a personal note, I will be finishing my time at St Benedict’s at the end of this term to take up the role of Assistant Principal – Religious Education, Identity and Mission at St Francis Catholic College, Edmondson Park. While I am excited for this next chapter, I will deeply miss the students, staff, and families who make our community such a wonderful place to work and to be involved in.

During Wellbeing Week, our Feast Day Celebration will take place on Thursday 21 August. On this day, students are permitted to wear appropriate HOUSE themed/coloured mufti clothing. This special event will also feature a variety of fun and engaging activities for students to enjoy throughout the day. To participate in these activities, students will need to use *Bennie's Bucks, which can be pre-purchased in bundles of $5, $10, or $20 through Compass or available on the day. Please note that refunds will not be provided for any unused tickets.

Pre-purchasing is highly recommended to avoid queues and to ensure students receive their tickets in time. Payment and consent for a $20 bundle must be submitted by Monday 18 August with tickets to be distributed during STRIVE on the morning of the event. Additional bundles of $5 and $10 can also be purchased via separate events, and students will have the option to buy more Bennie’s Bucks (via cash or EFTPOS) before school on the day. A list of some of the stalls and activities is provided below.

This year, our Wellbeing Week fundraising will be supporting Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, an organisation dedicated to cancer prevention, research, and support services. The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse mission is to bring hope, support, and strength to individuals and families impacted by cancer.

Cancer has touched our Bennies community in many personal and profound ways, affecting students, families, and staff alike. Every contribution helps fund life-saving research, vital patient services, and public education programs. Supporting this cause reflects our shared commitment to health, wellbeing, and standing together as a community in the fight against cancer.

Check out what our students have created and what is on offer on Thursday 21 August. You can also check out the brick wall at the canteen for what's on offer:

* Bennie's Bucks are paper vouchers used as currency on Thursday 21 August. Students exchange cash or EFTPOS on the day, which are then used for purchases instead of handling money directly. Take advantage of purchasing Bennie’s Bucks via Compass events as this avoids the long queues on the day. Over the past semester, our Year 9 Critical Thinking class has been learning about how conspiracy theories have been integrated into our society for hundreds of years. We have been developing skills to understand how they spread through society and drew the attention of masses around the world. We started our journey at an immersion day at Wollongong University with other schools to kickstart our semester of discussion-based and inclusive learning in the classroom. Our lessons consist of engaging in a mix of interactive activities and free-flowing discussions on current and past world events. We have reviewed different ways of thinking and how to question the information we find to ensure we develop an unbiased and informed opinion that is based on facts.

After delving into conspiracy theories and their roots, we were presented with the opportunity to create a visual presentation of a conspiracy theory of our choosing. We were told to make it ‘old-school’, using foam boards, models, and a wooden easel; some students even had interactive parts of their presentation, including scents and sounds. These projects explained how the conspiracy theory of our choosing came into being, how it spread and the factual information either for or against it, encouraging the viewers to decide for themselves and put their critical thinking skills to use.

Our recent incursion in the library with the fascinating "Weapons Man" was an unforgettable experience for Year 8! He brought along many different historical weapons from the medieval era and beyond. What made it even better was his brilliant sense of humour. He had everyone laughing as he swung swords around and joked about how not to accidentally decapitate your classmates. He showed us how different weapons were used and what they were used for. We were allowed to touch them, hold them, and get a proper feel of what the weapons were like. “Weapons Man” explained what knights and other warriors wore in battle. We were able to try on some of the armour ourselves which was quite heavy! Even trying on the chainmail on its own was heavy enough without even putting the rest of the uniform on top! It wasn’t just a lesson, it was a full-on time-traveling adventure through history, and everyone was able to get involved. This was such an awesome event that our school organised for us.

On Thursday 7 August, a group of Year 10 Child Studies students had a valuable hands-on learning experience as they participated in a playgroup observation session. Hosted by Little Joey’s Playgroup at St Mary Mackillop Catholic Parish, the session gave students the opportunity to observe and interact with young children in a structured, real-world environment.

Over the course of the visit, students closely observed how children play, communicate, and interact with one another and with adults. They also took note of the developmental stages across different age groups and gained first-hand insight into the importance of nurturing environments and purposeful play.

For many students, this was their first experience in a professional early childhood setting. They observed activities such as constructive, imaginary, sensory and physical play. Our students led the children in a group singing activity which incorporated some Australian Auslan language development, the parents of the children were very impressed.

Students were encouraged to reflect on what they saw and heard. This observation not only supports course outcomes but also helps students consider future pathways in teaching, childcare, psychology, and community services. It’s a great example of how real-world experience can enrich classroom learning.

I was incredibly proud of our Year 10 students. I look forward to this experience again with our next group of students.

Year 8 Visual Arts Workshops

Year 8 Visual Arts students recently participated in a Banksy-inspired graffiti workshop, designed to spark their creativity and inspire them to consider Visual Arts as an elective subject in Year 9. The workshop introduced students to the history and cultural significance of street art, with a focus on how Banksy uses stencils, bold imagery, and thought-provoking messages to engage audiences. Students designed their own original concepts, experimenting with layered stencils, spray paint techniques, and visual symbolism to communicate personal or social themes. The activity encouraged creative risk-taking, critical thinking, and an appreciation for contemporary art forms that exist outside traditional gallery spaces. By the end of the workshop, students had not only developed practical skills in graffiti art-making but also gained a deeper understanding of the power of visual art as a tool for storytelling and social change, leaving many inspired to continue their artistic journey into Year 9 and beyond.

Following the excitement of Winterfest, our Year 12 students are invited to participate in a meaningful and impactful event: the annual Winter Sleep-out. This year, the sleep-out will be held on the same Friday as Winterfest, immediately after the festivities conclude.

This special event is more than just a night away from home; it's an opportunity for our senior students to experience, in a small way, what it's like to sleep rough and to reflect on the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness. The sleep-out aims to raise awareness and funds for Vinnies dedicated to supporting people in need.

Students will be sleeping in a designated, supervised area on the school grounds. We ask all participants to bring a sleeping bag, warm clothes, and a sense of community spirit. This is a chance to come together as a year group and make a real difference.

Further details regarding the exact start time, permission slips on compass, activities for the night and fundraising targets will be provided to Year 12 students in the next couple of weeks. We encourage all Year 12s to get involved in this important initiative and show their support for a worthy cause.

Our Year 9 Design and Technology students have been hard at work designing and making their own creative light boxes. Students began by researching their target market, thinking carefully about who they would be designing for and how they could make their light box both functional and sentimental. They then sketched out original and imaginative design concepts, exploring a range of ideas before choosing one that best captured their vision. Students used Adobe Illustrator, an industry level software, to create their digital designs and then brought them to life with the use of the laser cutter. Each of these processes were documented extensively in a professionally presented digital portfolio.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication and creativity our Year 9’s have shown throughout this process. Each student has created a unique and thoughtful piece that they are excited to gift to someone special.

Four outstanding Year 11 students from St Benedict’s have been recognised with the prestigious Victor Chang School Science Award. Michael Bruni, Natasha Jeffriess, Maria Manoj and Daniel O’Malley received their awards at a formal Camden Council reception, hosted by Mayor Cr Ashleigh Cagney.

The evening featured inspiring speeches from Member for Camden, Sally Quinnell, and a representative from St Vincent’s Cardiac Institute, highlighting the work of Dr Nick Murray, a cellular biologist researching heart disease in babies.

Honouring the legacy of pioneering cardiac surgeon Dr Victor Chang, the award celebrates excellence in science and encourages students to pursue careers in STEM. This year, only 200 students across NSW – including 17 from the Macarthur region – were selected for this honour.

Congratulations to our recipients! They should be immensely proud of this remarkable accomplishment.

On August 5, the College buzzed with excitement as our Year 9 and 10 students took a bold step toward their futures by participating in White Card training! This nationally recognised qualification is essential for anyone wanting to step onto a construction site, and now, our students are one step closer to real-world work experience.

Delivered by Coastal OHS Services / Leading Safety Training, this course equips students with vital knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) practices, legislation, and risk management in the construction industry. All students successfully completed the course and were issued a White Card by SafeWork NSW, unlocking the door to exciting career opportunities and work placements.

We’re proud to offer programs that give students a head start on their career journeys.

Importance of Opal Card Compliance Importance of Opal Card Compliance

We would like to emphasise the critical importance of carrying and correctly tapping your Opal cards when using public transport services. Recent observations have highlighted lower compliance rates among some student passengers, impacting our ability to accurately monitor patronage and ensure reliable service delivery.

To support us in maintaining efficient operations, please reinforce the following key messages with students:

  • Carry Your Opal Card: It is essential for students to carry their Opal card at all times when using public transport.

  • Tap On and Off: Ensure that Opal cards are tapped on and off for every journey. This data helps us assess demand and plan reliable school bus services.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in ensuring smooth and efficient transport operations for all.

School student travel information for parents and students School student travel information for parents and students

School Travel Passes

Applications are now open for 2025 School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) travel.

Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card (including a Term Bus Pass) for the first time will receive their School Opal card at their nominated postal address from mid-January 2025.

Students who require a School Opal card or travel pass but have not yet applied need to apply.

In the Opal network, students should travel with a Child/Youth Opal card until they receive their valid School Opal card.

Students living in rural and regional areas will receive their travel pass from their nominated transport operator. It may be issued via their school or be sent directly to them at home. Note: some rural and regional operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

Terms of Use

Students using School Opal cards must tap on and tap off in line with the Opal terms of use.

This includes travel within the approved times between 6.30am and 7.00pm from Monday to Friday on school days only. Students must use their Child/Youth Opal card for any travel outside these times.

All students are required to comply with the Student code of conduct. The code of conduct aims to ensure the safety and well-being of school children and other passengers. It is important that parents ensure their child is aware of this, as failure to comply with the code of conduct can result in a suspension from travel.

Rainier College Uniform Shop Rainier College Uniform Shop

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of some upcoming changes to the operating hours of our Ranier Schoolwear uniform shop in Narellan.

From 20 June to 15 August, our shop will be closed every Friday. This decision is based on historical trends showing a significant decrease in foot traffic during this period, coinciding with the July holidays when families are away. Rest assured, online orders will still be accepted during these times, and our dedicated staff will ensure that orders are processed promptly upon our return.

Additionally, please note that the shop will be closed for a week and a half from Friday 4 to Monday 14 July (inclusive) for our annual stocktakes and audits. During this period, customers can continue to place orders online. Orders received during the closure will be processed and fulfilled starting from Tuesday 15 July.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our services and ensure the efficiency of our operations. Click on the below attachment to see operating hours.

Thank you for your continued support.
