January 4, 2024

Dear Nova Classical Community,

January holds special significance as it marks the celebration of School Choice Week, during which we reflect on the importance of educational choices, including the ability of families to select Nova Classical and other public charter schools. We want to convey our heartfelt gratitude for choosing Nova Classical Academy as your partner in your children's education, and we eagerly anticipate continuing this journey with you.

In the past few years, we have observed a remarkable increase in student retention at pivotal transition points. With 94% of last year's 5th-grade students choosing to remain with us for 6th grade, and 93% of last year’s 8th-grade students continuing their educational journey with Nova Classical into 9th grade, this increase in retention is crucial for maintaining the cohesion of our learning community.

As a reminder, if you have a kindergartner who will be starting with us next year, please keep in mind that the application deadline is January 31, at 4:00 PM. We are thrilled to welcome the next generation of Nova Classical scholars into our close-knit community.

We want to express our deep appreciation for your presence within the Nova Classical family. Here's to an exceptional year ahead!

It’s a Wonderful Day to be a Knight!

Dr. Brett Wedlund

Lost & Found

Has your child lost an item? Encourage your scholars to look in the lost & found by the recess door. There is a purple bin with recently lost items as well as organized, categorized shelves with older lost items. Valuable and/or little items (such as AirPods, jewelry, and glasses) are kept in the front office. Please have your scholars see Ms. Anna for these items.

Please contact Ms. Ann Anderson at aanderson@novaclassical.org if your scholar is having difficulty finding an item. You may also check in at the front office and then head to the Lost & Found to search for your child’s lost item(s).

PLEASE HELP US BY LABELING ALL OF YOUR STUDENTS ITEMS. If it is a pair (e.g. shoes or gloves), label both. Please label items with a permanent marker and use both a first name (or initial) & full last name. Personalized clothing labels through namebubbles.com or www.mabelslabels.com work great! The cost for a set of labels is usually less than replacing one lost item. When items are labeled, we will try our best to get them back to your scholar at school. Unlabeled uniform items, because they look like and are often the same brand & size as one’s classmates, are difficult to find. Thank you!

Dr. Brett Wedlund
To me, Nova Classical exemplifies how a school can deliver a great education to students by breaking away from the model that is often seen in traditional public schools. I'm proud to be part of a team that has created such a standard of excellence.

"Whenever you say 'yes' to something unimportant, you're saying 'no' to something important."

— Joshua Fields Milburn
