Safe Entry and Safety Procedures Safe Entry and Safety Procedures

From time to time, our school will have a “Safe Entry.” This is a routine safety check required by WS/FCS. It does not mean that anything is wrong at school.

During a Safe Entry, students will enter through metal detectors. Doors will open at 6:45 a.m. Students will unzip their bookbags, place them on a table, and a staff member will check them while the student walks through the detector. Please remind your child to only bring what’s needed for school each day. This helps keep bookbags light and makes the process faster.

We’re also required to do random classroom searches/metal detectors each week. A class is chosen at random, and students bring their items to the hall for a quick check before returning to class.

These steps are part of keeping everyone safe and are simply part of our regular safety routines.

A Note from Administration: School Supplies A Note from Administration: School Supplies

We are asking for your help regarding certain small school supplies brought from home.

To prevent damage to our facility and ensure a focused learning environment, please do not send your student to school with Post-it notes or paper clips.

We've recently had issues with students folding these items into "darts" or small airplanes and throwing them, often sticking them into the ceiling tiles. This damage requires significant time and effort from our custodial staff to remove and repair.

If a student needs Post-it notes or paper clips for classroom instruction, their teacher or the school office will gladly provide them.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership in helping us keep KMS a clean, safe, and positive place for everyone to work and learn!

Math 8 Check-ins (Not Math 1) Math 8 Check-ins (Not Math 1)

8th grade Maath 8 students will take their Check-in test on Tuesday. Please make sure your student gets a good nights sleep on Monday and knows to take this assessment seriously. Teachers will use this information to make decisions about your child's instruction.

All students are able to have the computer read the test questions to them. To take advantage of that, they must bring WIRED headphones.

Rising 6th Graders Rising 6th Graders

Please share with any current 5th graders interested in becoming a Hawk next year. We will be offering school tours on the following dates. This is also on Facebook and Instagram for easy sharing. For questions, contact Ms. Pardue at kwpardue@wsfcs.k12.nc.us

To support KMS To support KMS

Many families have asked how they can support our school, and we’re grateful for that continued partnership. One way is through direct donations. Click here for the donations link and funds collected will go directly toward instructional resources for students—this includes materials teachers need to strengthen learning and improvements around the building that directly support student growth.

In mid-October, our PTA will also begin their first fundraiser of the year, which is another great way to help our students and staff.

If anyone would like to support our school community, you will find links to teacher wishlists at the link below.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust, it makes a true difference for our students.
