Families,

Thank you for another wonderful school year. It has been such a pleasure to watch your learners grow! We are wishing you a summer full of adventure and laughter. To our rising fourth graders – good luck at Center School next year! We know you are going to continue to do great things. To the rest of our students – we can’t wait to see you again in August.

If you still have a congratulatory sign for your 3rd grader by the school entrance, please be sure to remove it by the end of the weekend. Any signs remaining here next week will be disposed of. Thanks for your help!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Fondly,

Joey & Andrea

Grade 3 Step-Up Ceremony & Showcase Of The Arts Grade 3 Step-Up Ceremony & Showcase Of The Arts

This year, in addition to our Step-Up ceremonies, we were thrilled to host a grade 3 Showcase Of The Arts as well! Mrs. Maldonado led the choir, as they performed three songs; and Mrs. Vining facilitated an art show that displayed masterpieces from throughout the school year. Congratulations to all of our Grade FOUR students! On Tuesday, they officially became Center School Lions! We will miss you!

Kindergarten Monsters Kindergarten Monsters

Earlier this year, Mrs. O’Dell-Piper’s 7th grade Family & Consumer Science Class sent our Kindergarteners several monster templates to design. Our young learners were encouraged to make their monster their own! Those designs were sent back to the 7th grade class, and they sewed them to life! This week, some of those 7th graders made a special delivery to Memorial School; and Mrs. Clark’s and Mrs. Snyder’s classes got to meet their little monsters! We were all so amazed at the time, energy, and precision executed by the middle school students. Thank you, Mrs. O’Dell-Piper for facilitating this awesome project.

Final Garden Club Update Final Garden Club Update

The third-grade Garden Club has been busy the past few weeks. Students painted ladybugs which are now hidden throughout the garden. They added signage, weeded, and spent their last week laying down mulch. Our strawberry plants continue to produce fruit with at least 9 classes hosting tasting in their classroom. Garden club members became tour guides as they showed off all their hard work. Our plants are thriving and we can't wait to harvest vegetables during the summer and fall.

Dear Memorial Families,

As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics and literacy. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support their needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.

Details about these opportunities and how your learner can participate can be found by visiting the district’s Summer Reading & Math website and exploring the available resources and links. All students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Math Packet on Monday June 8th.

Students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Reading Packet during the final week of Library Media. We will communicate a due date for completed summer activities in the fall and look forward to celebrating our students’ efforts with a fun recognition event.

For math related questions, please feel free to contact district math specialists Lis Ellis (K-2) or Andrea Winiarski (3-5).

For literacy related questions, please feel free to contact Rebecca Flannery (Library Media Specialist), Kerry Liebler (K-1 Literacy Specialist) or Abby Skarvelas (2-3 Literacy Specialist).

We hope you have “sum” fun with math and reading over the summer!

~Mrs. Ellis, Ms. Winiarski, Mrs. Flannery, Mrs. Liebler and Mrs. Skarvelas

Sunscreen Policy

The East Hampton Board of Education believes in promoting sun safety to ensure that children are protected from skin damage caused by harmful ultra-violet rays in sunlight. The Board believes that by encouraging sun safe behavior and teaching children about the risks of sunlight, they can be protected from skin damage and lessen the risk of skin cancer.

New legislation (P.A. 19-60) allows school students, six years of age or older, to possess and self-apply an over-the-counter sunscreen product while in school prior to engaging in any outdoor activity, provided a written authorization is signed by a student's parent/guardian and is submitted to the school nurse.

**Please contact the school nurse if you need an authorization form for sunscreen application.

The sunscreen must be non-aerosol and must be approved by the FDA for over-the-counter use for the purposes of limiting ultraviolet light-induced sun damage.

Any questions and or concerns you can contact the nurse's office 860-365-4020 Ext. 816

Please note

When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
