Oak Grove Parent Connection
January 2025

A Note from Principal Akers
Welcome back!!!! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with those who are near and dear to you. January always brings new goals, new hopes, new opportunities.
You can work with your child(ren) to set goals for the remainder of the school year! By doing this, it allows your child to challenge him/herself to strive for those goals.
There are so many opportunities for you to be involved at Oak Grove. You can contact your child’s teacher or contact the front office. We are always looking for volunteers.
My hope is to continue to make Oak Grove the very best school where #TogetherWeSoar!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Akers

News from the ESOL Department
We hope you enjoyed your holidays! As students return to school in January, we want to remind parents of students who are multilingual and are served by our ESOL teachers that we will begin WIDA ACCESS Testing. We sent a “School to Home Connection” letter in December that explained the four areas of language development assessed through the WIDA ACCESS test. These English language development areas are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Please encourage your child to do their best on this test, get a good night sleep, and help ensure that your child attends school each day and comes to school on time. The days your child will be tested will vary each week, and we will be able to do make up testing if a child is sick. The ESOL department is excited to watch our students shine as they show what they know.
