SECC ~ Learning & Growing Together
10/16/26
๐ From the Principal
Hello, SECC Families!
After the long weekend, it was nice to settle back into our routines and enjoy a relatively quiet week at SECC! Sometimes, these quieter weeks give us the opportunity to catch our breath, reconnect, and appreciate the little moments that make our school community so special.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and communication. I truly value the conversations we have with families and the trust you place in us each day. When we keep those lines of communication open, we can work together to better understand each childโs needs and celebrate their growth along the way.
I hope you enjoy the weekend and find some time to relax and recharge. Thank you for being such an important part of our SECC community. We look forward to another week of learning and growing together!
Lisa

A Special Visit to PreK! ๐ค
This week, we had a special visit from Mr. Strauss, a robotics engineer, who brought in a robot to show our preschoolers! He explained how his robot helps children ages 5โ15 who are unable to attend school due to medical needs or being in the hospital. The robot allows these students to stay connected with their teachers and classmates, participate in classroom activities, and even take pictures of the board or their homework! Mr. Strauss works with Boston Childrenโs Hospital and the Valerie Center to help children continue learning while receiving medical care. Staying connected with their friends and classroom can also help children feel better during their recovery. Our preschoolers loved meeting the robot and learning how technology can help others!
Kindergarten Mathematicians at Work!
Our kindergarten mathematicians practiced counting objects arranged in different ways while working with a partner. They recorded the numbers they rolled and used math vocabulary like more, fewer, and the same to compare quantities. Through this hands-on activity, students are building counting skills, strengthening their math vocabulary, and learning to collaborate with one another. Way to go, kindergarten mathematicians!
Mrs. Egglestonโs Class: Big Ideas in the Making! โจ
As part of EL Educationโs Module 1, Mrs. Egglestonโs first graders are putting their thinking caps on! Students are brainstorming, sketching, and exploring possibilities as they begin planning their Magnificent Things. Weโre excited to see where their ideas take them as they turn their plans into something wonderful!

๐พ A Special Surprise Visit!
Our SECC learners were absolutely thrilled by a special surprise visit from Sergeant Silvestri and Officer Ruby, his police dog, from the Townsend Police Department! It was such an exciting treat for our little learners to meet Officer Ruby and connect with members of our community. A big thank-you to Sergeant Silvestri for taking the time to visit SECC and make our day extra special!

๐ซ Join Our SECC School Council!
We are still looking for a few SECC family volunteers to join our School Council this year!
Our primary focus for this year's School Council will be School Climate. Weโll come together to share ideas, listen to family perspectives, and explore ways we can continue building a positive, welcoming, and inclusive school experience for all of our students and families.
Our goal is to meet 4โ6 times throughout the school year, from 3:30โ4:15 PM. Weโll work together to determine meeting dates that work for our council members.
Interested in being part of the conversation? Please reach out to Lisa Comeau at lcomeau@nmrsd.org.
We would love to have your voice at the table!
๐คฒ Weโd Love Your Help! ๐คฒ
Weโre looking for families who may be interested in volunteering at SECC throughout the school year! There are lots of ways families can get involved, and opportunities may look different throughout the yearโfrom helping with a special event or classroom activity to supporting a school-wide project.
You donโt need to commit to volunteering regularly. If youโre interested in being part of our family volunteer list, please complete the form below. When opportunities come up, weโll reach out with more information.
Weโd love to have you be part of our school community in whatever way works for your family!

Rainy Day Recess, SECC Style! ๐ง๏ธ
Rain or shine, we always find ways to play and learn together at SECC! When the weather keeps us indoors, our kiddos enjoy building, coloring, creating, and exploring activities with their friends. These moments are about more than just fun. They give our students valuable opportunities to practice sharing, taking turns, communicating, and building friendships. We love seeing their creativity and play skills grow, no matter what the weather brings!
๐ Fall Weather Reminder: Recess Ready!
As the cooler fall weather arrives, please remember that we go outside for recess every day, weather permitting! Fresh air, movement, and outdoor play are important parts of our kiddosโ day, even when temperatures begin to drop.
Please be sure your child comes to school with a jacket or sweatshirt so they can stay comfortable while enjoying outdoor play. Fall mornings can be chilly, even when the afternoon warms up!
Thank you for helping our little learners stay comfortable and ready for fun outside!
๐ Our Lost and Found Is Growing!
Our little learners are growing, and so is our Lost and Found! ๐ We have quite a collection of sweatshirts, jackets, and other items that are looking for their owners. If your child is missing something, please take a peek at the items pictured below. We encourage families to label clothing and belongings whenever possible to help us get everything back where it belongs. Thank you for helping us reunite these items with their owners!
๐ Get Ready for SECC Spirit Week!
Weโre getting ready for a little fall fun at SECC! ๐๐ Our Spirit Week will take place October 26โ30, with a fun theme each day for our students and staff to enjoy!
From Pumpkin Patch Day and Spooky Socks to Wacky Wednesday, Scarecrow Day, and Halloween Day, weโre looking forward to celebrating the season and bringing a little extra joy to our school days. ๐งก
Be sure to check out the Spirit Week flyer for all of the details and ideas for each day. We canโt wait to see our SECC littles showing their spirit! ๐ป๐พ๐งฆ
Hannaford Helps SECC!
Thanks to the generosity and participation of our school community, Squannacook Early Childhood Center raised $250 through the 2026 Hannaford Helps Schools program! Our community redeemed 44 coupons, directing these funds to SECC to support our school.
These funds will help us continue creating a positive, thriving learning environment for all our students. We are so grateful for the support, encouragement, and involvement of our families and community members. Your contributions make a meaningful difference for our students, teachers, and staff.
Thank you for supporting SECC and helping our school community continue to grow! ๐
News from SEPAC
NM SEPAC will be hosting our 2nd annual transition fair on October 20th from 5:30-7:30pm. While it is typically geared towards high school students, we will have community services there such as DDS and recreation options that are available to all ages.
Bullying Awareness & Prevention
At SECC, one of our goals is to help our littles learn how to learn, how to play, how to problem-solve, how to make friends, and how to navigate relationships with others. These are important skills that take time, practice, and lots of adult support!
Weโre sharing the districtโs Bullying Awareness & Prevention presentation as a resource for families. It provides helpful information about recognizing bullying, responding to concerns, and supporting children as they develop positive relationships and social-emotional skills.
We appreciate your partnership as we work together to help every child feel safe, valued, connected, and ready to learn. ๐
๐ Student Absences ๐
If your child will be absent/tardy from school, please be sure to call our absence line at 978-597-5254 to let us know. Please call each day your child will be absent.
Thank you for helping us keep our attendance records accurate and, most importantly, ensuring that we know where our students are each day.
