This week's Most Valuable Players
Thanks for being a shining example of the Washington Way!
Make a Request, Accept No
This week students will be learning how to make a request and accept no as an answer.
How to Make a Request
- Eyes on the person
Wait quietly to be acknowledged
In a calm voice, make your request
Wait quietly for response
After a response is given, say “OK, Thank You”
Rationale
- More likely to get the answer you want
- To be respectful to others and the person you are asking
- To be safe so you do not do something that could harm you or others
- To be responsible by asking permission
How to Accept No
Eyes on the person
Say “OK”
Stay calm
If you would like an explanation, in a calm voice ask, “May I ask why?”
If you still disagree, in a calm voice ask, “Can we talk about it more later?”
Rationale
School/teachers have a schedule they have to keep so your request might not work into the schedule.
To stay safe (No, we can’t stand on our chairs)
To be respectful (No, you can’t talk to your friends while others are working)
To be responsible (No, you can’t call you mom to bring your book to you)
