Dear Parents,

As we begin preparing for next school year, we are asking parents and guardians to select the world language course you would like your child to take. Please note the following important information regarding language selection:

  • Language Commitment: The language your child selects will be a two-year commitment. For example, if your child selects French, they will take French 1 in 7th grade and French 2 in 8th grade. The same structure applies for Spanish.

  • AVID Students: If your child is enrolled in the AVID program, they will not be eligible to take a world language course in middle school, as AVID will take the place of an elective. They will have the opportunity to take a world language once they begin high school.

  • Spanish Language Arts Students: If your child is currently enrolled in Spanish Language Arts, please select Spanish Language Arts on the form. This will serve as their language elective.

  • Students with IEPs: If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that includes a support class, they will not be eligible to take a world language elective in middle school. These students will be able to take a language elective in high school.

Please take time to discuss this language selection with your child.
We want students to feel excited and confident about the language they choose to study over the next two years. We are fortunate to have outstanding and passionate language teachers in both Spanish and French, who are committed to making the learning experience engaging, supportive, and meaningful.

Our goal is for your child to not only build strong language skills but also to enjoy the process of learning about different cultures and global perspectives. Choosing a language should be a shared decision between you and your child to ensure they feel ownership and enthusiasm about the journey ahead.
