Greetings Brown Families and Caregivers,

Happy Friday — I hope you and your children are looking forward to a restful weekend.

This week our students put our PAWS core value of WORK HARD into action as they completed their Renaissance midyear benchmark assessments. We were proud to see so many students giving their best effort and demonstrating focus and perseverance. Our Multilingual Learner students also have also been work diligently on the ACCESS test, the annual assessment that measures progress in English language development.

Next week our teachers will hold midyear data meetings to review Renaissance results and plan targeted intervention groups for Cycle 3 in both literacy and math. These meetings are a vital part of how we ensure instruction is responsive to students’ needs and that interventions are provided at the right level of intensity.

We will mail individual Midyear Renaissance reports to families at the end of February so you can review your child’s progress and growth. If you have questions about your child’s report or would like to discuss supports or enrichment options, please reach out to your child’s teacher — we welcome partnering with you.

Thank you, as always, for your collaboration and support. Together we work to make sure each and every student receives the right balance of challenge and support to learn and thrive.

Warmly,
Johanna Even
Principal, Brown Elementary

If your child has illness symptoms:

  • Please keep your child home and refer to the Reasons To Keep Your Child Home From School guidelines.

Reminder to parents:

Students will be going outside if we are not experiencing severe weather. Please pack appropriately for outdoor play, including boots, coats, snowpants, waterproof gloves/mittens and hats, as well as a change of clothes to be kept in their backpacks in case they get wet while playing.

Hydration:

Please send your child with a water bottle each day. It is important to hydrate even in the colder months!

Also: If anyone has any extra hand-me-down pants that they could contribute to the clinic for “emergency” situations, the nurses would greatly appreciate it!

Report on Student Progress (ROSP) Report on Student Progress (ROSP)

On January 30th, 2026 at 3pm each student will have a ROSP available for viewing and printing in PowerSchool. This report provides information about your student's progress toward grade level standards that they are expected to achieve by the end of the school year. It is therefore expected that students will be "Beginning" or "Progressing" rather than "Meeting" at this time of year. Instructions for viewing your student's report can be found here.
