Building Strong Futures: Advisory Council Meets with Community Leader

Dr. Smith hosted the April Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Meeting, where scholars engaged in meaningful conversations about character, choices, and future success.

Special guest Mr. Hozay Hausley, President of Renasant Bank Aberdeen, spoke with students about the importance of building good credit, making positive decisions, and being people of strong character. He also shared insight into careers in banking and finance, helping students understand how income connects to the lifestyle they may choose to pursue.

Scholars gained a valuable perspective on the long-term impact of wise versus poor financial decisions, lessons that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

As always, our students were encouraged to be their best selves at all times.

A Family Legacy Takes Flight: Celebrating the Lopez Sisters

Congratulations to A. Lopez on achieving her first solo flight, a major milestone in aviation!

This accomplishment means she took to the skies alone for the very first time, demonstrating her skill, confidence, and mastery of safety procedures after hours of dedicated training. A first solo flight marks the transition from student to independent aviator and is truly a rite of passage.

Even more special, if she looks familiar, it’s because just last week, her sister made history as the first in the program to complete a solo flight. We are incredibly proud of the Lopez sisters and can’t wait to see them continue to soar both in the classroom and in the sky!

From Handshakes to Hustle: Freshman Seminar in Action

Mrs. Nichols’ Freshman Seminar class has been building real-world skills by focusing on professionalism, learning how to tie a tie, make eye contact, and give a proper handshake.

Students also tapped into their creativity as they explored entrepreneurship by designing “trending junk” (career ties) and unique hats. It’s all about preparing for the future while having a little fun along the way!

STEM in Action: Students Explore Careers in Advanced Manufacturing

Today, students had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals from the MS State Advanced Composites Institute, gaining real-world insight into how composite materials are used, especially in aircraft construction.

Students also explored the role of 3D printing in modern manufacturing, seeing firsthand how innovation is shaping today’s workforce.

This STEM-focused experience helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and future careers in engineering and technology, giving our students a clear look at what’s possible.

PROM: Please Return on Monday

Aberdeen High School juniors and seniors heard an important message as State Troopers and special guests spoke about the risks that come with prom season and this time of year for teen drivers.

The initiative, “PROM: Please Return On Monday,” serves as a powerful reminder, make safe choices, look out for one another, and ensure everyone makes it back safely.

Let’s finish the year strong and safe.

Raising the Bar: Understanding Mississippi’s Higher Accountability Standards

Mississippi has raised the bar for school and district academic performance. Starting with the 2025-26 school year, schools and districts must meet higher standards to earn each A-F letter grade. The Mississippi Department of Education has developed resources to help district leaders, families, community members, and media understand what has changed and why, and what to look for when school and district grades are released in fall 2026.
