Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Families,

We look forward to welcoming you—and your children, if you choose—at our Back to School Open House this Thursday, for kindergarten through grade 5! Our Middle School Back to School Open House night is next Wednesday, September 18. Our goal, as always, is to give families an overview of the learning standards, grade-level objectives, and classroom expectations for the year. Equally important, this event offers an opportunity to see where your children will be learning and to connect with their teachers.

As you may know, we adapted our Back to School Open House Night model last year to provide optimal flexibility for families to visit multiple teachers while still learning about the curriculum and expectations of the coming school year. Additionally, to help with childcare concerns and to empower our students, we decided to allow students to act as tour guides for their families. Your feedback for this model was exceedingly positive, but we have also considered the suggestions we received to enhance the experience.

Tonight, I wanted to provide specific details of the evening’s events. We will begin at 6:30 in the Sawyer Wing Auditorium. I will introduce our administrative team and our PTO Board. Following the introductions, I will present an overview of the slide decks and handouts you received from your child’s teacher regarding teaching and learning at Florence Sawyer School. I will close with an overview of our schoolwide expectations, goals, and vision. At approximately 7:10, families will have the next forty minutes to visit your children’s classrooms, related arts areas, and to connect with the teachers.

6:30 - Welcome from Mr. Bates and the administrative team

6:35 - Welcome from PTO

6:40 - Presentation “Foundational Literacy, High-Quality Instructional Materials, Universal Screeners and how it all fits together”
7:00 - Florence Sawyer School expectations and goals

7:10 -7:50 - Visiting classrooms and connecting with teachers.

In other FSS news,

  • Please note that this Friday is our first Early Dismissal for students. FSS Students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm.

  • We are looking for volunteers, for school and classroom projects. For more information, please see below.

  • Please be conscious of your speed when driving on campus. We have a number of students who walk or bike to school and we want to ensure that they are safe.

  • Please note that the path between Trinity Church Parking lot and Mechanic Street is not a thru-way for vehicles. Students and parents use this path when walking to and from school.

As always, we are grateful for your support and partnership.

Sincerely,

Joel Bates,

Principal

Included on the Virtual Backpack page is a Community Events and Activities page where you can find non-school sponsored activities such community events, youth sports, community information for families, and other activities for children. We do our best to keep the CAEP updated.

Nashoba Regional High School Athletics Information

We are excited to have you become a part of the Nashoba Regional High School Interscholastic Athletics Program. Nashoba Athletics is rich in pride and tradition. NRHS offers 50+ teams across 21 sports!

Participating at the high school level requires a greater commitment compared to a club or recreational team. Members of a team are expected to attend all practices and competitions. Weekend practice sessions may vary by sport and should be anticipated. In addition, teams do practice and compete over vacations and many holidays (i.e. Columbus Day, Veterans Day, etc.).

Prior to the start of each season, the high school will host a meeting for students and their parent(s)/guardian(s). These pre-season meetings serve as an opportunity for coaches to provide information about their program, team philosophy, expectations, and more.

The athletics office will send out information via email prior to each season, but we wanted to share information ahead of time for all potential incoming ninth graders.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Tania Rich, Director of Athletics, at trich@nrsd.net

Middle School Fall Cross Country - Registration Middle School Fall Cross Country - Registration

Dear NRSD Middle School Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

The cross country season is here!

I am enclosing information that is critical for ALL fall athletes. Please read the information carefully. Please note that before being able to tryout or participate in a fall sport, all student-athletes must have the following on file:

ONLINE REGISTRATION PLATFORM - FINALFORMS! Click here

We are very excited to announce that Nashoba Athletics has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice!

FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time. You may review your data at any time to verify it is current. You will be required to sign your forms once per year and after any update.

Click on the Parent Playbook (attached) to get started in FinalForms. If you require any support during the process, scroll to the page bottom-right and click “Get Help”.

Please register at: https://nashoba-ma.finalforms.com/

and follow the prompts to create your account, create your students and sign your forms.

Student-athletes must log-in to FinalForms to sign off on numerous documents to become eligible for the season!

If your account is GREEN in FinalForms, then your child is eligible for fall sports. The two head box, one head box, and clock all should be green!

Physical Examinations – Submit a valid physical to the nurses’ office. Physicals are valid for 13 months to the day of the exam – students with expired physicals will be ineligible to participate until a current physical is submitted. We highly encourage all physicals to be emailed to the school, Karin Frostholm - kfrostholm@nrsd.net

Fall User Fees - User fees for middle school sports are $100.00 per student per season. User fees can be paid by check or online through the district's Unipay site.

Checks can be made payable to the specific school (Florence Sawyer School) and given to the coach or dropped off in the main office.

The online payment center can be found at the following link: https://www.nrsd.net/o/nrsd/page/online-payment-center

If you have specific questions regarding a team, please contact the coach’s listed below:

Two students at Nashoba Regional High School created a brochure detailing all of the clubs and activities offered at Nashoba. For more information click on the QR code below.

My name is Haley Thaxton and I am a senior at Nashoba Regional High School. As a part of my final project for my Real-world writing class, I created a brochure on all the sports and clubs at Nashoba. My partner and I wanted to create a way for upcoming students to be better informed about Student-athletes and other after-school activities. We were hoping that you would post the attached QR code in your weekly newsletter as well as allow us to bring in some printed brochures. Thank you so much, Haley Thaxton
