Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year!
Happy summer everyone!
With just a couple of weeks left of summer vacation I am reaching out with a few updates and reminders about what to expect.
Weekly Reviews!
You can expect to see a Weekly Review in your inbox and text messages every Thursday throughout the school year. Weekly Reviews have important information about what is going on at the school, upcoming events, and things care givers need to be aware of or do.
Thursday Things
Related to Weekly Review, we have Thursday Things Folders again this year. Any physical things that need to get sent home, get sent home on Thursdays! So if you only check your kids back packs once a week...check it Thursday night. Some things to expect are Monthly Events Calendar Pages, Menus, Report Cards, Graded work, fliers for events, and permission slips.
Dismissal Plans and Changes:
Please fill out the dismissal plan survey for EACH of your K-5 children. This year all K-5 students will be dismissed at 2:45 PM. We will continue to offer bus dismissal, car rider pick up, and walker pick up options.
Important Upcoming Dates:
- Sunday, August 16th-- Garden Work Party 9-12 AM
- Wednesday, August 26th-- Kindergarten and PreK Orientation: 9AM-10 AM (Kindergarten Bus Tour 10AM-10:15 AM)
- Thursday, August 27th-- First Day of School!!!! (PreK-8)

Upcoming Events!

Thanks to a grant from Vital Communities, we have 6 new raised garden beds that we will be assembling and then filling with top soil from 9am-12pm. You're welcome for the whole time or just drop by. We have 3 shovels and some gloves, but bring your own if you have them.

Mountain Day/ Wellness
-The Origin Story!
This year White River School will celebrate the year with Mountain Day!
Mountain Day has become the third event in our traditional rotation of BIG DAYS for White River School. The other two events are Boston (whole school field trip that we took last May) and Farm Day (bringing the whole farm to White River School for a day!).
Originally Mountain Day was actually the Health Fair, but like so many things, it got off course during the Covid years.
We got it back on track with Taming the Wild Day! We had planned to spend an entire day out in the woods as a school, in the winter. Exploring, playing, building, frolicking, etc. Unfortunately on the day of the event it was -10ยบ, and we had to transition to an indoor Wellness Day. That spring we hosted our first Mountain Day, where everyone in the school spent the day out on a hike.
This year we continue the tradition of the Big 3 at WRS, by celebrating Wellness throughout the year and capping it all off with a Mountain Day this May! (We do require a lot of parent chaperones for that day, so start walking and save the day-- Friday May 14th (Thunderstorm date of May 21st---We won't cancel for rain, but will for severe thunderstorms).
