Walsh January Students of the Month - Citizenship Walsh January Students of the Month - Citizenship

Congratulations to the January Students of the Month. They were recognized by their teachers for showing "Caring" in their classrooms.

Kindergarten

First Grade

This month, first graders are working on informational writing. Students are working hard to develop a full paragraph with an introduction, three key details, and a conclusion! They also used shaving cream to practice letter formation! In math, students are building groups of ten and adding tens to 100. Families, don't forget to read with your child every night for at least 20 minutes!

Second Grade

In second grade WIN groups, students have bee working hard on the FLSZ rule (puff, buzz). Students are working on finding the words that were missing the bonus letter!

Third Grade

In third grade, students are contrasting literal and non-literal language. They are also writing biographies to create a wax museum! In math, students are finding the area of squares. They are also working to learn and memorize their multiplication facts.

Fourth Grade

In ELA this month, fourth graders are working on their essay writing skills! Ask your child what they are writing about! In math, students are working their knowledge of fractions.

Transitional Classrooms

In Mrs. Retzke's classroom, students learned the letter "u" and the sound it makes. Second graders have learned the words "the" and "was." Please ask your student to "tap it out" and have them show you how to spell those words! In math, students are working on showing various amounts of manipulatives.

In Mrs. Parker's classroom, students are focusing on counting to 120! Students worked as a team to write out numbers through 120 on their white board. In reading, students are focusing on their individual letter and sight words of the week through the Orton Gillingham Multisensory reading program. Students are excelling using this amazing program and Mrs. Parker is so proud of their hard work.

Art at Walsh! Art at Walsh!

Greetings from the art room! My name is Mrs. Dworak, and I have been having so much fun getting to know all the Walker artists!

We have been working with paint, markers, chalk, glue, and cut paper to create beautiful artwork! I intend for students to learn how to use their creativity and be independent thinkers and workers. Students learn about art history, world history, and art history throughout the year. I hope you enjoy seeing the artwork and find something to hang in your family gallery!

Grade 3 & 4 Highlight:

Third graders just finished a chalk tiger drawing and are now working on a Kinte cloth weaving in honor of Black History Month.

Fourth graders completed a mixed-media drawing of a panda using shading and are now learning about George Rodrigue, a New Orleans artist, and how to mix tints and shades.

What Happens if Walsh School has an E-Learning Day?

It is possible that bad winter weather would cause school to be called off. If this happens, students would have an "E-Learning Day". Teachers would assign work for students through Seesaw.

Please read the District 104 "E-Learning" Plan.
