Back To School Edition
Pink Elementary - July 2026
The Palominos Press: September 20, 2026
A Note from Ms. Hernandez
Dear Palominos Families, & Supporters!
Last week, I shared the importance of transparent, solution-focused communication and working together as partners for our students. This week, I had the opportunity to put that into practice through our first Coffee & Conversations, and I want to thank the parents who joined me!
We had an open and productive conversation about Pink—what’s going well, opportunities for continued growth, ways families can become more involved, and ideas for strengthening the partnership between home and school. I appreciated the questions, feedback, and willingness to share honestly. These conversations are important to me because some of our best solutions come when we sit at the same table, listen to one another, and work together with our Palominos at the center.
As we continue strengthening communication between home and school, I also want to remind everyone of the Transparent Solution-Focused Communication Plan shared last week. Our administrators are often away from their desks throughout the school day—supporting classrooms, meeting with students and staff, addressing campus needs, and ensuring the safety of our Palominos. Following the communication process below helps us respond to concerns efficiently and get families connected with the right person:
- Start with the source. Email the classroom teacher or the office that directly handles the concern (attendance, counseling, administrator, etc.).
- Give us 24 hours. We are often out serving students during the school day, but we will follow up. In the event of an emergency, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
- Need more support? Contact our assistant principal, Ms. Callis.
- Still unresolved? Email me directly at Malissa.Hernandez@lcisd.org so I can help close the loop.
When reaching out, please include your student’s name and ID, grade/teacher, a brief summary of the concern, and the best way and time to reach you. Providing this information helps us respond more quickly and effectively.
Most importantly, please bring concerns directly to us. We cannot solve a problem we do not know about, and our goal will always be to listen, understand the concern, and work together toward a solution.
Thank you to everyone who continues to reach out, ask questions, offer solutions, and partner with us. We are on the same team, and our Palominos are at the heart of every decision we make.
With Palomino Pride,
M. Hernandez
Expect Excellence. Achieve Greatness.

Strengthening Safety Together
This week provided an important opportunity to reflect on our practices and make adjustments that strengthen the safety of our students and staff.
Effective Immediately:
- Students must not open any interior or exterior door for any reason
- Signage will be posted throughout the school
- Teachers will review this expectation with students
- A reminder will be shared DAILY during announcements.
If someone needs assistance entering a room or the building, students should immediately notify a staff member.
Thank you for reinforcing this important safety expectation at home as we work together to keep Pink safe.

Spotlight on Learning: Math Skills in Action! 🎬
Our fourth graders put their knowledge of decimals to work by using newspaper circulars to plan and budget for their very own parties while enjoying a few snacks. They did a fantastic job hunting for deals, adding up costs, and making sure they stated under budget. Way to go, Palominos!
