Wiggin Street Parent Update

Better Together
Dear Families,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend! Our staff and students are still talking about what may have been the best assembly we’ve ever experienced. Jim “Basketball” Jones captivated everyone with a highly interactive and motivating presentation. You may have heard about the fun basketball tricks he performed with students while reinforcing the powerful message of the Power of Yet. He also generously donated a stuffed Yeti and his three books to our school library.
Students were then invited to participate in a game of Simon Says, with a focus on Being the One who helps others feel included. When students made a mistake, they were encouraged to skip back to their spot—but soon were welcomed back into the game. Jim shared an important message: “When you make a mistake or lose, own it. Walk away with a skip or a dance in your step!” This helped students feel comfortable taking risks and trying again. By the end, the entire school was joyfully participating.
The assembly concluded with an incredible Dance Off! Each teacher selected one student to represent their class, and those students led their classmates in dance. They were all amazing! The winning class was to receive the stuffed Yeti, and I had the honor of being the judge. Thankfully, Jim decided the Yeti should live in the library so all students can enjoy it.
Later in the week, some of our 3rd–5th grade students participated in Art Around the World with Lily Grace after school. Students explored Aboriginal Dot Painting using Q-tips and sponges, and their creativity was truly impressive.
We would also like to remind families to check the Community Bulletin Board regularly. A link is provided below, and the board can also be found on the MVCSD website. This is where community organizations share information about activities available to students throughout the district.
We hope students enjoyed their day off today, and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
With warm regards,
Christy Grandstaff
