Wolverines,

Welcome back! I am excited and ready to see our students returning to the building, filling the hallways with energy and enthusiasm once again. A new school year brings fresh opportunities for learning, growth, and connection, and we are eager to continue building on the successes of the past year.

Here at MHS, we believe that the best outcomes for our students happen when we work togetherβ€”students, families, and staffβ€”all committed to supporting one another. Our goal is not only to challenge students academically, but also to help them grow as leaders, problem-solvers, and community members.

As we begin this year, let’s embrace the opportunities ahead and continue striving for EXCELLENCE. I look forward to celebrating our students’ achievements and partnering with families to make this school year one of the best yet.

Go Wolverines!

Backpacks and Bags πŸŽ’

Backpacks and bags (purses, drawstring bags, etc.) will remain in the students' locker through the entirety of the school day. Backpacks and bags may be used to carry items to and from school, but may not be used during the school day. This is to help keep our students safe in each space of the building, and to allow for free and clear walkways throughout hallways and classrooms.

Students carrying a bag will be given a verbal warning and allowed to return the bag to their locker. Any additional infraction thereafter will be cause for confiscation. This rule is in place to keep ALL of our students safe and healthy during the school day.

Grading Scale Update

The grading scale for the 2025-2026 has been updated. Please refer to the image to see the updated scale.

Academic Credit and Attendance Policy πŸ“

Students are expected to maintain a minimum attendance rate of 90% per semester in each individual class, including both excused and unexcused absences.

Falling below the 90% threshold in any course may result in the loss of academic credit for that course unless remediation steps are successfully completed by attending Monday school.

Monday School Dates (2025–2026 School Year)

Staff will be present on the dates listed below to help assist students regain lost instructional time from absences. Monday School will be held on the following dates:

  • September 15, 2025

  • October 6, 2025

  • November 10, 2025

  • January 5, 2026

  • February 2, 2026

  • March 16, 2026

  • April 13, 2026

Exceptions to the Policy:

Documented medical absences or absences due to school business (school activities or athletics) do not apply toward this policy.

*Board approved, July 2025.

Understanding School Attendance 🏫

Maysville R-1 students are in session for a total of 150 school days per school year.

Our district goal is to have every student in attendance at least 95% of the time.
This would mean all students are in attendance for at least 142.5 days, allowing for 7.5 days of absences for the school year, or roughly 3-4 days per semester.

90% attendance of 150 days is 135 days. Being absent 10% of those 150 days is equal to 15 days of absences, or roughly 7-8 per semester.

Missing that many days of school in a single school year can be damaging to students and their academic growth, social emotional development, and behavior. See the image below for more information on how absences can really add up, and not in a good way!

Remember, we want to see Every Wolverine, Every Day! πŸ’–
