Hermosa School Weekly Recap - Week of May 5 - 8
Hornet Families,
We had an exciting and memorable week full of celebration, achievement, and connection!
Teacher Appreciation Week was in full swing with events and treats each day to show our incredible staff just how much they mean to our students and families. A highlight came on Wednesday, when our 8th-grade class surprised the teachers with a special gift: the chance to pie students in the face! It was a fun and hilarious event that brought lots of laughs and perfectly captured the spirit of appreciation and school community.
On Tuesday, our 3rd-grade class traveled to Custer for a very special meeting with their pen-pals. These students have been exchanging letters all year long, and finally got to meet their writing buddies face-to-face. It was a heartwarming experience full of smiles, stories, and new friendships.
It was also a big week for our track and field team! On Tuesday, they competed at the West River Invite in Rapid City, where we saw outstanding performances and new school records. Congratulations to:
-
Will K., who broke the school records in both the 800-meter run and the triple jump,
-
Morgan B., who set a new record in the shot put, and
-
Sienna M., who shattered the school record in the 200-meter hurdles.
Karmyn E., who broke the school record in the triple jump.
The team continued their strong season with another meet in Edgemont on Thursday, proudly representing Hermosa School with dedication and teamwork.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of our students. We’re looking forward to another great week ahead!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Hermosa School is extremely lucky to have the teachers and staff that we do! They all work hard to build relationships with students and offer support that goes above and beyond academics.
In our counseling lessons the past two weeks, students have been busy making Teacher Appreciation cards to hand out this week. In the Elementary School, students brainstormed key sentences and ideas about their classroom teachers, and it is great to hear what stands out, and things they admire about their teachers. All students mentioned how much they learn from their teacher and how glad they are they have their teacher.
As we wrap up our school year, our last classroom lessons focus on a goal/something to work on for next year. When we start next school year with counseling lessons, students will self-reflect on their end of the year letter to themselves and make a plan on how they can achieve their goals.
Enjoy the beautiful weekend!
