Embroidery, Appliqué & Block Printing for Personal Storytelling

Saturday April 25: Embroidery
Saturday May 23: Raw Edge Appliqué (sewing machine required)
Saturday June 13: Block-printing
Workshops run from 10AM to 1PM

In this three-part workshop series, we'll explore how to transform clothing into personal, story-rich piece through drawing and textile techniques. Each class begins with drawing as a way to develop your own visual language-- simple, expressive motifs rooted in memory, symbolism, and everyday life. From there, you'll translate your imagery into cloth using three different approaches: embroidery, appliqué, and block-printing. Together, these methods offer multiple ways to mark, layer, and reimagine garments-- whether you're revitalizing something from your closet or upcycling a new-to-you garment. Rooted in folk-art sensibility, this series embraces imperfection, texture, and the idea that the magic is in the making.

Supported by the Ashfield Cultural Council and Belding Memorial Library.
RSVP: 413-628-4414 bmlashfield@gmail.com
Limited to 12 participants per workshop.

Bring 2-3 clothing items to embellish. All other materials provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note these activities include using sharp objects such as sewing needles, scissors, and linoleum block carving chisels.

Inspired Poetry Share
Wednesday April 29 6:30PM to 8PM
Registration required

Enjoy an evening of reading and listening to poetry! Bring your newest work, your favorite work, or a poem you read from another poet. We come together on a quarterly basis to read our work and or the work of others and enjoy filling our ears and hearts with poetry. This is a safe space to share your poetry. There is no critiquing, just appreciation for sharing inspired words.
Our optional theme is "Ephemeral".

Zine Club
Last Monday of the month from 6:30PM to 7:30PM

A zine ("zeen") is a handmade & self-published booklet, usually photocopied and traded or sold in small batches. Did you know we’ve started a zine library & art-making station in the teen section? Join us on the last Monday of each month for ZINE CLUB, where we’ll have art games, creative prompts, and supplies for making your own zine!
