Dear La Escuela Fratney Families,

I would like to remind you that students will be released early from school on Wednesday, October 8. Afternoon dismissal for full-day students will be at 2:15 p.m. Half-day classes will be adjusted so all morning and afternoon students will receive learning time. Morning half-day sessions will run for two hours from 9:00 to 11:15 am. Afternoon sessions will be from 11:15 to 1:15 pm.

This early release schedule was developed so teachers can receive instruction on the district’s new literacy plan, which will help all students become better readers. Please make arrangements for your student's early drop-off by bus or to pick up your student earlier than usual. Please notify any daycare, family member, or friend who is affected by this schedule.

On-site after-school care for K3 students will be available on the early release day. CLC before and afterschool care for students in K4-6th grade students will not be available on the early release day. After-school care by Milwaukee Recreation will be available at four hub locations from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Transportation to the sites must be arranged by families.

The four sites for students of all ages are: · James Madison High School, 8135 W. Florist Ave. · Hawley Environmental School, 5610 W. Wisconsin Ave. · Rufus King International Middle School, 121 E. Hadley St. · Wedgewood Park International School, 6506 W. Warnimont Ave. Please visit mkerec.net/schoolcare to complete the online registration form.

All students will receive lunch at school on October 8 and future early-release days.

Please be aware that three more early-release days are scheduled for the 2025–26 school year on December 10, March 4, and April 15.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Sara Cruz

Principal

La Escuela Fratney’s Holiday Policy

We have developed a holiday policy that we feel is respectful to all our families. Seasons and holidays define and drive the curriculum in many schools. La Escuela Fratney’s policy discourages the overuse of holiday/seasons in our curriculum. Instead, we believe holiday activities can contribute to a multicultural and antiracist perspective. Our curriculum includes authentic and sensitive experiences that reflect our students and the broader community.

MPS visitor policies are designed to keep students and staff safe MPS visitor policies are designed to keep students and staff safe

Wednesday, September 24, 2025

Every day, MPS staff are working to make schools safe and positive for students and staff. Respect is the key to a positive school environment inside MPS buildings and on school grounds. When students, families, and staff show respect for one another, teaching and learning can take place and our schools can be successful. We encourage everyone to show respect by:

  • Remaining calm

  • Using kind language

  • Listening to and following staff instructions

  • Working toward solutions together

Visitor Policy and Procedures

The safety of students and staff is a top priority in the district. Because we welcome families in schools, we want everyone to understand the procedures for visiting MPS buildings. This will help everyone know what to expect and make visits go more smoothly.

All visitors must:

  • Schedule any meetings with school staff in advance.

  • Visitors are limited to TWO per student for meetings, conferences, and classroom visits unless approved by the building administrator or designee.

  • Use the designated main entrance.

  • Report to the office/security desk.

  • Show a form of identification. Everyone age 14 and older must present a school ID, driver license, or other photo ID.

  • Sign in and out on the MPS Visitor Record.

  • Be escorted to and from the requested location.

  • Wear/display the MPS Visitor Pass at all times while in the school.

  • Return the Visitor Pass to the office/security desk and sign out.

Student Behavior Concerns

To protect our students, if anyone has a concern about student behavior, the behavior must be reported to a staff member and/or the child’s teacher or further action. No one should attempt to confront, discipline, or punish another parent or guardian’s child. The district has many procedures in place along with a Student Code of Conduct that describes disciplinary actions. Misbehavior and violations of the code of conduct will be handled according to district processes in place. The Student Code of Conduct can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook on Rights, Responsibilities, and Discipline at mpsmke.com/rights.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation to keep our schools safe.

MPS Calendar-La Escuela Fratney Calendar for 2025-2026 MPS Calendar-La Escuela Fratney Calendar for 2025-2026

There will be one calendar for the whole district again this year. Please review this calendar before making plans for trips or vacations. Students must be in school 95% of the time or more which means they can only miss 1 day a month the whole school year. Students who miss more than 10 days of school a year fall behind academically and socially. Make a plan now to be in school every day on time.
