School Board Appoints Former Trustee Sam Slaton to Place 7
Following Josh Westrom's resignation from the Argyle ISD Board of Trustees Place 7, the Board was given the opportunity to fill the vacancy. Those options included calling a special election in November, appointing an individual until the May 2027 election, or leaving the place vacant until May 2027.
A special election would come with a high cost to the district, so the Board opened the vacancy to a possible appointment.
The Board received numerous applications and expressions of interest, including individuals who have previously served as Argyle ISD Trustees. Board members met with several candidates and appreciated the opportunity to hear their perspectives and their willingness to serve the district and community. The applicants represent varying backgrounds and regions across the district. We were very impressed with their poise and appreciate their willingness to serve. The caliber of individuals willing to step forward and lead gives us great confidence that Argyle ISD will continue to thrive.
Through deliberation, there was hesitation to accept an appointment to an elected position, since this role is typically elected by the community. This opened the discussion to the former board members, who have the added benefit of having completed training and can enter the role seamlessly as we head into the start of the new school year.
As a result, the Board of Trustees has appointed former AISD Trustee Sam Slaton to serve in Place 7 until the May 2027 Election.
Mr. Slaton served as a Trustee from 2017 to 2026 and as Board President for eight of his nine years. His dedication to the district's mission and his understanding of the βwhyβ behind our decisions made him an excellent choice. He has been an integral part of the progress Argyle ISD has made amid growth and change, and we welcome his extensive knowledge and insight as we look to the future.
Mr. Slaton will be sworn into office during the Aug. 3, 2026 special meeting at 5 p.m.
