National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Truth and Reconciliation Week will take place from September 26-29, 2023. We will have learning activities in classes during the week and special announcements every day.
Eastside Secondary will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day (Orange Shirt Day) on September 29, 2023. We encourage everyone to wear orange to honour this day and acknowledge the harm done by residential schools in Canada. We will have Orange Shirts for any new students available without cost.
We will also be including learning activities throughout the week in our classes and holding an Orange Shirt painting and introductory beading workshop on Thursday in the Library at Lunch.
Emergency Response
To provide for the safety of students and staff, schools are required to have plans in place to respond to a wide range of emergency situations.
Eastside SS will hold 3 fire drills in the fall and another 3 in the spring as per the Ontario Fire Code. Teachers will review fire evacuation procedures with students in advance of any drills.
Emergency plans also include reviewing and practicing the stages of emergency response: lockdown, hold and secure, shelter in place, and emergency evacuation. We will work with our community partner, the Belleville Police Service, to plan and organize for this practice that will happen later in the school year.
The Sharing Cupboard
Eastside Secondary has the opportunity to partner with the HPE Learning Foundation to offer a new food sharing program that will provide nutritious food for home for any students and families that need it.
The Learning Foundation is providing the funding for our Sharing Cupboard. We are in the initial set up stages and look forward to sending more information soon.

You can download the order form here.

School Council
Eastside Secondary School has an active School Council that consists of parents, staff, students, and community members. Meetings are held regularly. The team works together as an advisory group to support excellent programming and to foster ongoing school improvement.
If you are interested, please join us at 5:30 on October 2nd in the Library.
Attendance Matters!
Students are expected to attend school regularly and to be in all classes when they are at school. The most important factor that impacts a student’s grades and success in school is their attendance. EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS!
If students will be away from school, please call to notify the main office (613 962 8668). Please do not call to excuse a student from class to go to the library or other location in the school. Students who are at school, must be in class. If a student has parent permission to be out of class, they must be picked up.
Please take a moment to review our attendance expectations with your youth.
