Week 26

Dear MUMS community,

What an incredible week it has been! The Citizen Summit was a huge success, thanks in large part to the enthusiastic participation of our students and the support from our friends at MUHS, our valued community partners, and Middlebury College. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make the day so meaningful for our 6th graders.

As we approach the end of the quarter next Friday, we encourage all caregivers to check in with their students about any missing assignments. Your support in guiding students to complete their work is invaluable as we close out the quarter.

Big thanks goes out to everyone who contributed to the Jukebox Jubilee last Friday night, especially Clint Bierman and the Grift for their fantastic music, and Megan Brady and Holmes Jacobs for hosting the event.

Looking ahead, please join us for our annual Talent Show on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall Theatre. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students’ talents and to support the 8th grade trip. We hope to see you there!

Thank you again for your continued support and collaboration, and have a great weekend.

Best,

Michaela Wisell ~ Principal

From the MYP Coordinator

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!

This week, 6th graders are starting a brand new science fiction unit! In this unit, students will be reading works of science fiction, learning about the genre and the way authors use fiction to explore real-world problems. They will debate many interesting questions, including: “Should humans focus on repairing the earth or colonizing other planets?” For their main text, students will have a choice of 3 different science fiction novels.

To prepare for these full-length books, students are exploring characteristics and vocabulary of the science fiction genre. Pictured here, students are creating pages for their “word wall”, using new prefixes and vocabulary. Soon they will be digging into their choice of book in literature circles: “The Last Cuentista” by Donna Barbera Higuera, “City of Ember” by Jeanne Duprau, or “Legend” by Marie Liu. The unit will culminate with an argument essay and a science fiction expo!

💡Talk to your student: Which technologies do they find helpful, and which ones could be harmful? What is their favorite sci-fi movie or book, and how does it explore real-world problems? Would they like to live on a Mars colony someday?

Shoreham/Cornwall bus caveats

Please use the "button" above to preview our ACSD bus routes.

Also please note a few caveats that impact students who ride Cornwall or Shoreham buses home.

Cornwall and Shoreham buses do not come to MUMS at pick-up time. Students who ride those buses must take a shuttle from MUMS to MUHS to meet their bus.

Cornwall students use the Bridport bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Cornwall bus at the High school to ride home.
Shoreham students use the Weybridge bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Shoreham bus at the High school to ride home.
