November Recap at Freedom Elementary

November truly flew by at Freedom! We kicked off the month with our first Music Program of the year, and our students shined on stage. Turkey Bingo was a huge success as well—thank you to all the families who attended and made it such a fun evening of community and celebration.

We also wrapped up our first trimester. You can now view your child’s progress in PowerSchool to see how they are growing as learners. If you have any questions about grades or goals, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

A big THANK YOU to all of you who donated snacks this month. Because of your generosity, our classroom snack drawers are stocked and ready. This helps ensure our learners can stay focused, energized, and ready to learn each day.

We are grateful for our Freedom families and your continued support!

December Upcomings

December is right around the corner—and that likely means snow! Please make sure your child comes to school dressed and ready for outdoor play. This includes boots, gloves, a hat, snowpants, and a warm jacket each day. Fresh air and movement are important, and having the right winter gear helps keep every learner safe and comfortable.

If your family is in need of any winter clothing, please reach out to our school counselor, Mrs. Caron. We are here to help.

A quick reminder that our last day of school before Winter Break is Tuesday, December 23rd. We hope all of our Freedom families enjoy a safe and restful break!

Cold Weather Cold Weather

From the WFPS Elementary School Handbook...

COLD WEATHER

North Dakota winter weather can be very cold. Therefore, dress your children warmly during the winter months. Children must wear a winter jacket, snowpants, mittens or gloves, boots, and a winter hat. Learners must be dressed warmly enough to be comfortable. Taking time to label your child’s clothing articles will help them be identified and returned if they are misplaced. *If you are unable to provide winter gear for your child, contact the school and we will do our best to plan for them.

Except in the case of very severe weather, learners will spend 20-30 minutes outside during the noon recess. Guidelines used to judge whether learners will go outside for noon recess are dependent upon the temperature and the wind chill as primary factors. The building administrator may make the decision to have elementary learners in grades K- 5 stay inside before school and/or during recess once the wind chill reaches -5° F. All learners will stay inside before school and/or during recess when the wind chill reaches -15º F. Principals make this determination using the National Weather Service http://forecast.weather.gov

According to this index, learners and staff members are safe going outside until the wind chill reaches -15° F.

The index chart the district uses to make these decisions is shown below.

If learners are brought indoors before school starts, they will wait in a designated area for school to begin. Do not bring learners to the school before they can enter the building.

The educational team will work to teach and ensure that our learners are properly dressed when going outside in extreme weather. Learners may be delayed from the typical dismissal time if they are not properly dressed.

Reminders Reminders

School Times

Learners should NOT be at school before 7:30 AM. We do not have supervision before then and the building will still be locked.

Learners should be dropped off by 7:50 AM. At this time, our first bell rings and students head to their lockers and classes to start their day.

The final bell rings at 8:00 AM and attendance is taken at that time. Students who are NOT in class at 8:00 will have to check in at the office for a tardy pass.

School dismisses at 2:30 PM.

Pick Up & Drop Off

Please PULL FORWARD all the way and STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE when dropping off or picking up your child. This keeps the car loop moving and allows for learners to exit and enter vehicles quickly and safely.

We are Nut Aware

Reminder: Freedom Elementary is a Nut Aware School. Please do not bring snacks and/or bag lunches with peanut butter or nut items.

No Birthday Treats

We also follow our school district's guidelines for a healthy learning environment. Birthday treats are not allowed in the classrooms. Classrooms will use activities to celebrate birthdays instead.

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found can be found in the school's commons area. Items most frequently left are sweatshirts, jackets and water bottles. PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD'S ITEMS!! Even initials help us find who something belongs to. Items not claimed will be donated at the end of each month.
