Be a Better You Be a Better You

For the 2023-2024 school year, West Elementary will be working on targeted practice on some “life” skills in addition to academics. Every week, we will practice a skill that will help us all be a little better. This week’s skill is LISTENING.

Most people are pretty good at LISTENING, but a reminder never hurts. This week we will be practicing.

Keep Practicing to Be a Better You

Reminders for Parent Pick-Up Reminders for Parent Pick-Up

Thanks for your patience with West Elementary these last few days through dismissal. As the bussing situation improves, we are hopeful that the parent pick-up line will be more manageable.

Just a few reminders:

  • If you have an assigned bus number, please consider using district transportation. Things should be running closer to on-time this week. This will alleviate car traffic on campus.

  • Parent pick-up will begin at 3:25. Please refrain from coming early. The added traffic on campus is interfering with Allendale’s parent-pick and bus dismissal.

  • Please stay in your car in order to keep the line moving. Please consider buckling up quickly in order to keep the line moving.

  • If you plan on picking up your child, please send a note to the teacher. If you have a set pick-up plan or schedule, please communicate this as well.

  • Please know that parent pick-up in the main office needs to be prior to 3:00pm because we are preparing for the 3:25pm release of students to parents and buses. Coming to the office after 3:00pm adds to the congestion in the office.

  • Our instructional day ends at 3:20. Any regular parent pick-up prior to 3:20 results in lost instructional time. In order to avoid this, please use the car line or buses.

Thank you for your cooperation. We are hopeful everything will be running smoother this week.

Helping the West Seneca Community Food Pantry Helping the West Seneca Community Food Pantry

West Elementary regularly engages students and families in "service learning" by doing community based projects. Often these projects include helping community organizations such as the SPCA or troops serving overseas. We find that when a classroom works on helping others, students feel good about what they can accomplish in the work. They feel good about helping others.

The West Seneca Community Food Pantry is in need of donated goods. With food prices rising, COVID supports ending, and the growing needs in our community, the Pantry is experiencing a shortage right now. They are looking non-perishable food items and personal care products, but they are especially in need of the following:

  • canned tuna
  • peanut butter
  • jelly
  • pasta
  • sauce
  • soup

Mrs. Nicosia's class and Ms. McDonough's class will be leading this food drive. They are offering a "Blow Pop party" for the class with the most donated goods. Of course, doing good for others is its own reward, but Blow Pops are good too!

Please expect us to do these service projects throughout the year, but do not feel obligated to participate. Do only what you can do -- sometimes that means talking about the need with your children, sometimes that means giving your time, and sometimes that means making a donation. All of these help students understand the world is larger than just West Elementary!

Thanks for a Great Start to the Year! Thanks for a Great Start to the Year!
