State Assessments State Assessments

Our State Assessments will now be given at the end of each quarter—October, December, March, and May—rather than once at the end of the school year.

Each Math Quarterly Benchmark Assessment (QBA) and ELA Common Formative Assessment (CFA) will focus on 3–4 specific standards that were taught during that quarter. Olathe is one of a small number of districts in Kansas participating in this pilot program.

One of the biggest benefits of this new system is that it will provide us with more timely data about student learning. Rather than waiting until the end of the year to receive results, teachers will be able to use the information right away to identify areas where students may need additional support or intervention.

Our assessment dates are listed below. Please make every effort to avoid absences on these days. We also appreciate your help in making sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and comes to school encouraged to do their very best.

Thank you for your partnership and continued support!

Hello Chameleon Families,

I hope you and your family are settled into the fall bustle of school, sports and activities. Don’t forget about sleep! With the busyness of fall, consistent sleep can easily get pushed aside. Elementary-aged children generally need 9-12 hours of sleep each night. A consistent bedtime, a calming bedtime routine, and turning off screens before bed can help kids get the rest they need to learn, grow, stay healthy and feel their best during the school day.

As we head further into the school year and are naturally seeing an uptick in viral illness, a quick reminder that good handwashing is one of the easiest ways to help prevent the spread of germs! Encourage your child to wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after coughing, sneezing, or using the restroom. Hand sanitizer can be helpful when soap and water aren’t available, but it is not a substitute for effective handwashing.

Health Room Needs:
Our health room could use a few donations! We are currently in need of Goldfish crackers for students who need a quick snack and gently used boys’ shorts, sizes 6–10, for those unexpected spills, accidents, and muddy-recess moments.

Donations can be dropped off in the health room anytime. Thank you for helping us take care of our students!
