Looking Ahead

While there is still a lot of September left, I am leaving October's tentative dates here as a placeholder because there are a lot of important events just around the corner that you may have to pre-arrange plans for.

Multnomah is an amazing school with 3 pathways. On October 1st, the district will be opening up the echoices website for families who would like to sign up for any magnet programs for the 26-27 school year. Even if you're not sure, if you are thinking about it, you should definitely get on the list. Mrs. Hoffer (magnet coordinator) and I do not determine your placement on the list. As a matter of fact, we can't even see the list until it's time to process students. The district has a magnet point system that you can check out here to understand the rating.

We are hosting campus tours in October and November right at 8:30 sharp. If you are interested in seeing academic in action in any of our classes to get a better understand of the different programs, no appointment needed. Just should up and be on time per the tour schedule. Tour begins promptly at 8:30. Don't be late.

Unsatisfactory Notices Unsatisfactory Notices

Due: September 26th

Teachers are required to inform you by this Friday should your student be at risk of receiving a 1 or 2 score on their upcoming progress report due to any of the following reasons:

  • Unsatisfactory progress towards meeting the expected learning targets

  • Unsatisfactory progress towards meeting the grade-level standards taught

  • Unsatisfactory attendance and/or citizenship, work habits

Progress reports will be issued during the week of November 17 - November 21, 2025 during our Fall Parent Conferences. Mark your calendars and make sure you carve out one on one time to speak to your child's teacher about your child's academic progress. Success is centered around our partnership.

This is only a midpoint warning notice. It is a good time to have conversations with your student and teacher about what work might be missing or what concepts he/she might need extra support in. It also allows students 5-6 weeks to work on improving his/her/their scores and content knowledge before a final score is earned.

Please reach out if you have any clarifying questions.

5th Grade Parents: Action Required 5th Grade Parents: Action Required

Due: September 26th

Last week we hosted a 5th grade parent meeting and discuss some upcoming events as well as fundraising opportunities. We need all 5th grade parents to fill out this survey here if you haven't already. It is due this Friday and will support us in planning all of our Class of 2026 festivities and events.

Being in orchestra is a huge responsibility. It is your child's responsibility to remember to bring their instruments every Wednesday and practice at home in between lessons. Mr. Loken sent home a contract that informed both parents and students that if they forget their instruments at home four times in one semester, they will be dropped from orchestra. Even if you are able to bring it to school before their class, for that day, it will be marked as "failure to bring their tool." Students are expected to bring it themselves every Wednesday.

We are teaching students responsibility and we also have a long wait list of students who would like the opportunity to play an instrument as well. (Please note, some students are still getting sized for their instruments.)

Happy Rosh Hashanah Happy Rosh Hashanah

Monday, September 22nd

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. It's a time when Jewish people all around the world celebrate the beginning of a new year on the Jewish calendar. But instead of parties and fireworks like on January 1st, Rosh Hashanah is more about thinking, praying, and starting fresh.

People celebrate it by:

  • Going to synagogue (a Jewish place of prayer),

  • Listening to the shofar (a ram’s horn that makes a loud, cool sound),

  • Eating special foods like apples dipped in honey (for a sweet new year),

  • And spending time with family.

It’s also the start of a 10-day period of reflection, which ends with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. During these days, people think about what they’ve done in the past year, say sorry if they’ve hurt anyone, and try to become better people in the new year.

On Monday we will wear red to celebrate!

We honor his holiday in LAUSD by having Tuesday off.

We will see everyone back on Wednesday!

Fire Drill Fire Drill

Wednesday, September 24th

As part of our continued commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff, our Fire Drill on Wednesday will include not only our standard evacuation but also student reunification. After all students and staff are accounted for, the school will practice the parent reunification process, ideally with parent volunteers. This is intended to strengthen preparedness in the event of a wildfire or other emergency requiring large-scale evacuation and student reunification. If you are around and available on Wednesday at 8:20, please come practice checking out your child. Our main gate is our request gate and the kindergarten gate is the reunion gate.

Thursday, September 25th

We kick of Hispanic Heritage month by inviting everyone to wear something that represents their culture!

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time when we celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of people whose families come from Spanish-speaking countries, like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and many countries in Central and South America.

It starts mid September and ends on October 15.

We celebrate it to:

  • Recognize the amazing things Hispanic and Latino people have done in the U.S.—like in music, food, art, sports, science, and more.

  • Learn about their cultures and traditions, which make our country more diverse and interesting.

  • Show respect to people who have helped build and shape America, even if their stories haven’t always been told in history books.

So, it’s a fun and important month to learn, appreciate, and celebrate!

GOAL

  • September 22-26, 50 minutes reading, 50 minutes math

Are you checking in on your child's progress? Are they passing their assignments with over 75% passing rate? Checking in frequently is a great way to stay ahead instead of playing catch up later on.

I understand iReady was down last night (Thursday 9/18). I am not sure if we will have the problem again today or over the weekend. Due to circumstances out of our control, for this week only, if students have been meeting their iReady goals weekly, we will excuse this week (September 15-21) if goals are unmet.

Parent Corner Parent Corner

Last week we held our PAT meeting hybrid as it was our first one. Moving forward, we would like to survey you, parents. Would you be more likely to attend and/or participate if it was in person or via zoom. Please take a few seconds to fill out the survey here.
