"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
I hope you were able to enjoy Benita Albert’s lecture at our first meeting about Who’s Who in Oak Ridge High School graduates. Not only was it fascinating to learn about all that our students have accomplished, but I also appreciated hearing about Oak Ridge from Benita’s perspective. In addition to starting off August’s first program on this remarkable note, we also hosted our first Alpha Epsilon “fun about town” event. A handful of us tried our hand at making stained glass. This was a fun experience, and we each walked away with our own piece to take home. If you missed that stained glass event and would like a second chance to participate, or if you have an idea for a “fun about town” event, please reach out to Kay, Elaine, or me.
With so much turmoil going on, it was refreshing to hear good news from our hometown and enjoy the success of our students, as well as spend time together creating something with our hands…this is what it means to have succeeded.
Respectfully submitted,
Melissa
