Today, Yerington High School was filled with students from the high school, intermediate school, and elementary school—along with many supportive community members—who came together for a special assembly honoring Native American culture.
The event featured talented dancers from the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, who shared traditional dances and spoke about their cultural significance and history. Their storytelling and performances offered students a meaningful opportunity to learn, appreciate, and connect with the rich traditions of Indigenous peoples.
Students across all three schools were also invited to participate in several symbolic dances, creating a powerful moment of cultural exchange and unity. The assembly additionally recognized several respected Elders in attendance, honoring their presence and the knowledge they carry.
The entire student body remained engaged and enthusiastic throughout the event, showing great respect for the performers and the culture being celebrated.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the local and regional Native American tribes who joined us today. Their participation made this assembly a valuable learning experience and a reminder of the importance of honoring and celebrating the cultures that shape our community.
