Kia ora koutou

What a busy sporting time we are going through currently. A big thank you to all our coaches, drivers to and from the events and parents who go to support our students. Well done to our year 7-8 Rippa team who came 3rd in their competition on Tuesday.

Today we have 22 students attending the annual Jones Cup and competing in Rippa Rugby, Netball and Rugby. Thank you to everyone involved in this event.

To try and streamline the number of notices sent out, moving forward next term our newsletter will come out on a Friday the same week as assembly. The calendar of up-and-coming events will be included rather than being a separate “notices.”

As you will be aware our interim report comes out the end of term 2 each year. This year there are several changes to our report as we move forward with the common components that we have been asked to include. The new Maths and English curriculums that were gazetted late last year have also changed the expectations for each year group. They have also tried to articulate more clearly what it is that students need to know as they reach each progression point. These changes may however see a change in where you child sits against their curriculum expectations. Our midyear reports this year will be coming our at the end of week 1 Term3, this change has been made to allow as much data to be available to teachers so you will receive a clear picture of your children’s progress at this time.

To help everyone understand the changes there will be two parent meetings before the end of term to explore what our new report will look like and how judgements of progress are made. These will be held Wednesday 24th June 2.45-3.30pm and 6.00-6.45pm. Please click HERE to fill the form to show your preferred time and whether you would like your children supervised here at school while the meeting is on.

Have a great week.

Pīwakawaka Class

This week we travelled to Midhirst Hall to attend the junior play festival. While it was lots of fun watching everyone else perform the best part was being on stage performing our own play.

Tūī Class

In Tūī class the past couple of weeks we have been researching and looking into what you can find in the Temperate rainforests in New Zealand and some more interesting things about life in Rome, to add into our dioramas.

We have been publishing our animal adventure stories, and looking at how to use correct punctuation and continue to ensure our writing makes sense and is interesting for the reader.

This week we have started to explore persuasive writing. It all started when we came into class to find our chairs had QUIT! And we had to convince them that we were sorry for not looking after them better. Luckily they accepted our written apologies.

We continue to work on learning our spelling words in our homework, for our test on Mondays.

Kārearea Class

We are currently juggling our learning with all the sporting activities that are happening. Throughout this term we have worked with Gwenda from the regional council learning more about our local Rawhitiroa wetlands.

We have just started preparing our Climate change presentations and are working to create displays that are both informative and appealing to interact with.

Next week we are starting a new challenge in maths. Currently we are sitting at base camp awaiting word that it is time to work towards the summit. Information about this challenge will come home with students next week.

We have nearly finished our novel studies on the Wahine Disaster or Fish in a Tree and listening to the discussions around the events and emotion in both stories has shown how much the students have understood and enjoyed the books.
