Weekly Plan-Culture, Communication, Collaboration

Staff,

Thank you for a great Read Across America Week! It was so great to see how everyone pitched in to support a love for reading and books! Our family literacy night with Rock-It and Title I was very well attended and parents were very complimentary about our activities. The kids loved to dress up and see the Cat in the Hat (Amber Mattly).

  • Thank you to Mindy and Kimberly for getting everything ready for Kindergarten Round Up! it is so fun to see all of the new faces and we had 32 future Astros!
  • Thank you to Colleen and Sally for all of the behind the scenes work for Read Across America!
  • Thank you to Jenni, Lauren, Holly, Colleen, Becca, Ann, and all others who attended the NA Family Literacy Night on Monday! Playing Kahoot was so fun!
  • Our tornado drill and emergency drill went very well. As always, please make sure to prepare your students for these spring drills and emphasize Level 0 voices during the 2-3 minute drill.
  • We interviewed 3 music teacher applicants today. I am hopeful that we will have a successful hire in the next few days. They all did a great job and we had great applicants!
  • I will be working on doing phone interviews for our 4th and 5th grade classroom teacher openings over the two weeks of break. We will interview here at NA on Tuesday March 22nd in the afternoon and the candidates will teach lessons to our 4th and 5th graders. Hiring season is super busy, but so exciting to see the energy the applicants bring to the table!
  • PLCs for K-5 will meet on Monday March 21st/Tuesday March 22nd for 3rd/PK when we return. We are on literacy that day. As a reminder, teachers will be creating agendas as discussed in January. Jenni will send out a link to an agenda for the two grade level teachers to add to. Carrie, Jenni, and Lisa will be at a district meeting for 1st, 5th, and Kinder that afternoon.
  • PLCs for K-5 meet on Monday March 28th/Tuesday March 29th for math. Maybe you can choose one of you to plan the math and one for literacy? Then we can get in the habit of planning together before ending from then on.
  • There is no staff meeting Monday March 21st.
  • Our next early out PD is Wednesday March 30th, but the district is planning that time so stay tuned for details.
  • I wanted to give a special thank you to our Behavior Disorder (BD) staff including Amber Mattly, Erica Bean, Judi Waldron, Amera Brewer, Amber Otero, and Heidi Kellenberger! They have really had an interesting month or two with some of our most challenging students and I appreciate that they are always willing to change whatever it takes to help all of our students meet expectations!

Here are our 11 morning intersession classes. We have exactly 160 of our 300 students (53%) signed up as of today which is lower than our normal 60% participation. Scott Berg and Jenni Watkins are the lead principals for half of the day each next week. I will be here most of the time. I am sure it will be a fun, quiet week of hands-on learning and playing!
