Notes From the Editor

Just over a week ago, we experienced an onslaught of ice, snow, and record-low temperatures. All 254 counties in the state of Texas were affected by the frigid cold and many are still without electricity or water.

During this time, I have never been more proud to be a member of the Aldine community. We have been able to band together to provide each other with support, supplies, and resources. Our families, educators, and local organizations have organized food and water drives to alleviate shortages. The weather is warming up, but please let us not forget that there are members of the community who are still devastated by the storm.

Families -- please continue to reach out to your campus FACE liaison or principal for help. Your principals are advocating for you and we will be helping as many families as we can as we are made aware of your needs. May we all continue to be kind to one another and care for each other as we recover from the storm.

Board Meeting Recognitions

The FACE Department got recognized at the February Board Meeting for receiving a grant for the amount of $5,000 from the Noon Optimist Club. This money will be utilized to purchase books to be distributed to the community during Outreach Thursdays.

Water Distribution

Team Aldine responded quickly to the urgent need for water by hosting a water distribution event on February 22 at Aldine High School. Thanks to the generosity of the Halliburton Charitable Foundation, Buckner Family Center-Aldine, and Fellowship Church, hundreds of families received water and a box with a variety of salads. A big shout out to district leaders, FACE liaisons and members of the community who helped in this event.

Better Together Drive-Thru

On Sunday, February 28th, Aldine ISD made history by providing food to over 4,000 families. This huge event was possible thanks to the partnership with the Houston Food Bank, the collaboration of Board Trustee Dr. Kimberley Booker, and the hard work and enthusiasm of our volunteers who showed once again that we are Better Together!

WAYS TO ENGAGE WAYS TO ENGAGE

Have you considered mentoring?

Mentoring in Aldine ISD can be a rewarding experience. This opportunity can break down barriers and create opportunities for our students. Mentorship has the power to influence the trajectory of a child’s future, which increases his chance of success. The mission of our mentor program is to empower students to make positive life changes that can enable them to maximize their personal and academic potential. Please consider donating your time and talent to benefit the students in Aldine ISD.
