What's been happening around DWS?
Making Applesauce
🍎 Our kindergarten students in Mrs. Prendergast's class had a sweet time making applesauce from scratch with their fifth-grade buddies from Mrs. Tobin's class! From cutting the apples to tasting their delicious creation, everyone got to be part of the process. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience filled with teamwork, friendship, and a little taste of fall! 🍎
First Grade Readers
📚 Mrs. MacDonald’s first graders have been hard at work practicing their reading skills! From working in centers and partner reading to using their Chromebooks for Lexia, students were building their skills in lots of different ways. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and a love of reading growing with every page! 📚
Mrs. Bertulli's Gr. 1 Class
Our first graders are learning all about tools and how they help make work easier! This week, Mr. Liebro and Mr. Gilarde visited Mrs. Bertulli’s class to share some of the tools they use in their professions that help make work easier! Thank you Mr. Liebro & Mr. Gilarde!
Mr. Liebro visited Mrs. Bertulli’s class to demonstrate how he uses tools for his job in medical device marketing.
Mr. Gilarde visited first grade today to talk about tools he uses for his digital advertising job. He demonstrated how he uses cameras, drones, and a computer to make video advertisements. He even gave out hot wheels cars to show us that his ads are used to sell cars!
Center Time in Mrs. Higgins' Class
Mrs. Higgins’ class was hard at work learning and practicing their skills during center time! Students were busy working through activities, building their skills, and learning together. We love seeing our DWS students engaged, working hard, and growing every day!

DWS Elementary Conferences 🏫
Elementary Conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 1:25-3:25 PM and Thursday, November 5, 6:00-8:00 PM (both days will offer 10-minute conference time slots). We will be using PTCFAST for online scheduling, which allows parents/guardians to manage their conference schedules.
Parents/guardians can access the conference sign-ups by clicking on a link that will be on the DWS webpage. The link will be open to families on Friday, October 30, at 3:00 PM using the following steps:
Accessing PTCFAST:
· Visit the DWS webpage. Click on the “Parents & Students” menu and choose “PTC Fast Conference Scheduling.”
· A list of all teachers (by grade or subject) will be displayed.
· Click on the names of your student’s teachers with whom you wish to confer.
· Select a time and enter the required information.
· PTCFAST will send you an email confirmation. The email will give you information if you need to change your appointment and will send you a reminder of your appointments.
As always, appointments book quickly and are on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are unable to access an appointment with your student’s teacher, please contact that teacher to discuss your student at a different date/time. If you have any questions about the scheduling process, please contact Mrs. Jackson at jjackson@mpsd.org or Mrs. Kennedy at (781) 834-5045.

Getting Ready for the DWS Pumpkin 5K! 🎃🏃♀️🏃♂️
We’re getting ready to cheer on our DWS runners at the Pumpkin 5K! To help our students prepare, we’ll be holding a warm-up and cool-down Jog-a-Thon during PE classes starting on October 15. Students will have fun getting their bodies moving, building excitement for the race, and cooling down together afterward.
We are asking each student to help support this fundraiser by raising $10. Every dollar raised will help support our DWS students and school!
We’ll also need some parent volunteers! Mr. Patota, our PE teacher, will be looking for volunteers to help pass out water and oranges to our students as they participate during PE. Be on the lookout for the volunteer sign-up and consider joining us to help make the day fun and successful for our students! 🎃🍊💧
