High Point Quarterly Excellence Awards

Dear High Point Community,

Last Friday we held our first quarter excellence award assembly, recognizing students who exemplify being empowered risk takers. This trait is also one of our four Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools learner profile traits.

During this assembly we recognized students, had a read aloud from our school resource officer, Officer Jones, and recognized our grade level attendance award winners for the quarter, first grade.

All of our recognized students are now honored in the front hallway of the building outside the entrance to the library. Feel free to stop by and take a look next time you are in the building.

Have a great weekend.

Anthony Elkins, Principal

Today we had a secure safety drill. Secure is one of the five Standard Response we use in Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools. The other four include hold, lockdown, evacuate, and shelter.

When we secure, it means "Get inside. Lock outside doors." A secure may be used when it is determined that we need to move inside the building for safety reasons. Examples of when we use a secure may include a police presence in the area or an animal on school property.

More information on Standard Response Protocols can be found at https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html.

Grade levels will be holding fall parties on Friday, October 30 at 1:15 pm.

On this day students are able to wear festive and outfits and costumes as long as these costumes align with our school dress code. Please note that whatever students wear that day will need to serve as their outfit for the entire day, as we will not be changing outfits. Please do not send students with items that include props and gore. We appreciate your cooperation as we celebrate next week.

Visual Performing Arts Gifted Identification (Repeat Information) Visual Performing Arts Gifted Identification (Repeat Information)

Each year school districts in Ohio are required to offer an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to be identified as gifted in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. The identified areas of giftedness for Visual and Performing Arts include Visual Arts, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama/Theater, and Dance. If you know of a student that may be gifted in an area of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and would like for them to be screened for possible gifted identification in that particular area, please complete the Visual and Performing Arts Nomination Form found through this link.

Click here to learn more about the two-phase VPA gifted identification process. Please keep in mind that this evaluation is for identification purposes only. There are no specialized classes offered to students identified as gifted in VPA; however, teachers can use this information to differentiate their lessons.

Please note: Once a student is identified as gifted in one of the Visual and Performing Arts categories (instrumental music, vocal music, dance, visual art, theater/drama), the student is not eligible to go through the nomination process again for the same category.

Nominations will be accepted until Sunday, November 15, 2026, and will only be accepted using the Google link above.

If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Boyle at gjpsgifted@gjps.org.

Background Checks are needed each year for all volunteers!

To increase safety and security protocols, all GJPS volunteers who may have the potential to interact with students in an unsupervised setting or may have access to confidential information will be required to complete an online application that includes a background check. The district will provide the background checks at no cost to the volunteer. Background checks are required once every 365 days. If you completed a background check more than a year ago or your expiration date is approaching, you will need to complete the process again for the 2026-2027 school year.

EXAMPLES

  • Examples of volunteer experiences include but are not limited to: cafeteria helpers, reading aides, mentors, hall monitors, field day volunteers, library helpers, office helpers, tutors, field trip chaperones, small group or individual student work in the hallway, party helpers, concession workers, fundraising volunteers, book fair volunteers, etc.

Interested in Volunteering?

To volunteer, complete the following steps:

  1. Review the Volunteering in GJPS Schools information on the district web site, available by clicking on this link.
  2. Express interest in volunteering at High Point by reviewing some of our volunteer opportunities and completing the form below.
  3. Once completing the form, the school will reach out with additional information and provide you a link to complete the background check process.
