Superintendent's "On the Move" Seri
September 2nd, 2025
September is Attendance Awareness Month!
Why does September matter? Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Chronic absenteeism, missing more than 20 days of a school year, is an early indicator of disengagement. The number of our students missing more than 20 school days is on the rise and we need everyone's support to combat this problem.
Absenteeism is not just a school problem but it is a community problem. As "they" say, it takes a village to raise a child. We have a strong village here in Humboldt and we need our village to work together to make sure our children are in school everyday. We must lead by example -- our faculty and staff must be in the classroom each day on time. Our classrooms must be engaging and encouraging places for our students everyday to foster an excitement for learning. Parents must ensure their students arrive at school on time and prepared for learning. Lastly, we need our community partners to support and strengthen our schools by volunteering and providing important resources to enhance our school climate.
September matters but so do all the other months of the school year. We need our students in attendance so that our schools can educate and empower them each day. Let us all do our part to combat the growing problem of absenteeism in Humboldt.

Lots of great collaboration has been taking place the last week of September to finish out the month on a creative note! Teachers and staff worked together during their planning periods to sharpen their skills and develop strategies for their individual classrooms. While this was hard work, our teachers and staff also had a lot of fun working together while the picked up some great tools for improving small group activities for their students.
