A Trip Down Goshen Lane
Issue 16: Nov. 14, 2025
Principal's Message
Hello, Families,
Cold Temperatures: The weather sure did take a turn to colder temperatures this week. GJPS policy is that students will go outside for recess when the feel like temperature is at 17 degrees or above. Please help remind students to wear coats, hats, and gloves when coming to school.
Veterans Day Celebration: There was a lot to celebrate this week! Thank you to our veterans who were able to join us Tuesday to make our Veterans Day celebration even more special and memorable. Thank you to everyone who emailed in photos of the veterans in your family. Our students loved seeing the slideshow that was able to be created. And a thank you to our staff members who coordinated the event: Angie Buchert, Jen Brown, Julie Bojanowski, Jennifer McClary, Staci Aldrich, Matt Downing
Golden Opportunity Donut Winners: We had a nice visit this Wednesday celebrating the students' whose names were drawn from the October Golden Opportunity ticket winners.
Please see below for photos from this week.
This Week's Question Around the Dinner Table:

So Much Going on in Library with Mr. Walker!
Kindergarten and First grade have been discussing the differences between Fiction and nonfiction. We’ve talked about how nonfiction books have diagrams, labels, and facts that teach us. Students then learned that fiction books don’t have facts to teach us, entertain us with fun pictures, or jokes that are in the book. We’ve also been comparing two authors, Gail Gibbons who wrote The Pumpkin Book which taught students about Pumpkins and how to grow them and Mo Willems, who wrote Will the Pigeon Graduate, which follows the beloved character Pigeon as he graduates from school. Students then worked as a class to sort books into fiction and nonfiction groupings.
In grades 3-5, students have been working on understanding where parts of the computer such as the motherboard, RAM, CPU, and graphics card are located. To do this, students have been completing challenges in a digital escape room. They have also been learning about how to look closely at an image to tell if it is something someone might have created through photoshop, or is it an AI generated image to help them develop critical thinking skills when researching information online.
Questions to ask your student:
Grades K, 1, ask your child what type of books teach us about a topic.
Grades 3-5, ask your student what was the hardest challenge in the escape room.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
he story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a wonderful show that features student driven choreography, projections, design, and performances.
