Hello Families!

Thank you for all the feedback received at our first FAC (Family Advisory Committee) meeting! You had some wonderful ideas & we encourage you to keep sharing. 😃

Time is running out to be invited to Milburn Orchard's! Families must complete your child's ASQ and engage in our programming to be eligible to attend. The deadline is Friday, October 9th.

If you have any questions/concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out!

2 Little Blackbirds

Two little blackbirds sitting on a hill.
One named Jack and one named Jill.

Fly away Jack, flay away Jill.
Come back Jack, come back Jill.

Two little blackbirds flying in the sky.
One named Low and the other named High...

*You can show inflection with your voice to describe Low/High*

Fly away Low, flay away High.
Come back Low, come back High.

*Have your fingers give a smooch*

Miss Carly came with Mr. Arne and the bookmobile to playgroup on Thursday. She read a story & shared songs with shakey eggs! At the end of playgroup, families had the opportunity to hop onto the bookmobile to pick books (no library card needed)! We are excited to have the library visit monthly. A children's librarian & the bookmobile will be at playgroup on the first Thursday of each month! 📖

Below you will find the link to complete your child's ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaire). This requirement comes from the Maryland State Department of Education. All families that participate with the Judy Center are asked to complete the questionnaire. The nice part is it's quick & easy. It only takes 5-10 minutes!

Click here for complete the ASQ

Toilet learning goes smoothly when you watch for readiness cues and keep the process positive and low-pressure.

Know When Your Toddler Is Ready

  • Look for signs like staying dry for two hours, disliking dirty diapers, and showing curiosity about the bathroom.

  • Ensure your child can follow simple directions and pull their pants down and up.

  • Wait through major life changes like moving or a new sibling so your child feels secure.

Set Up Your Space and Routine

  • Place a small, child-sized potty chair in a handy spot or use a secure seat reducer on your regular toilet.

  • Keep a step stool nearby so your child feels stable and grounded.

  • Establish a predictable schedule by offering the potty at key times, like right after waking up or 20 minutes after meals.

  • Limit sitting time to three to five minutes so it does not feel like a chore or punishment.

Use Positive Guidance

  • Use direct, positive phrasing like "It is toilet time" instead of asking a question that invites a "no".

  • Stay calm during accidents; clean up matter-of-factly without showing anger or frustration.

  • Celebrate trying and successes with praise, stickers, or favorite books kept just for bathroom time.
