Kindergarten Special Edition

Dear 2023-24 Kindergarten Families!

If you are a new family, I'd like to be the first to offer an official welcome to the Hawks View community. If you are a returning family with a newly enrolled younger sibling, we are very happy to continue partnering with you to give your child the best educational experiences we can.

This special kindergarten newsletter is to provide our new and returning families with the information you need to successfully start the school year with your soon-to-be Kindergarten student. You are always welcome to reach out by calling the Hawks View office at 503-825-5400.

Please feel free to share this newsletter with any families with a Kindergarten age child who may not have heard about Kindergarten registration. Thank you!

Registration for our incoming Kindergarten class is available online using the link below. Incoming Kindergarten students must turn 5 on or before September 1, 2023. Registering early helps the school and district start planning for the fall.

Online Kindergarten Registration

During online registration, new families will create a Sherwood ParentVUE account. Parents of current and former Sherwood students will log in with their existing ParentVUE account. Please call the Hawks View front office at 503-825-5400 if you have any questions.

Paper Registration

Families are also welcome to register using paper registration. Paper registration packets can be picked up from the Hawks View front office.

Kindergarten Open House is an event for parents and incoming Kindergarten students to visit the school, hear from staff members, and meet their peers.

Kindergarten Open House

March 2nd from 3:30 - 6:00

Hawks View Elementary

Families should park in the parking lot and enter the building through the Activity Entrance. Sessions will start every 20 minutes, starting at 3:40. The last session will start at 5:40. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior to the start of your preferred session.

While waiting for sessions to begin, families will be given a chance to meet representatives from the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), learn about the on-site after school care option, take a picture in the self-serve photo area, and see a few parts of our school building.

This summer, incoming Kindergarten families will have a couple of opportunities to meet staff and other families during our Kinder Playdates. Kinder Playdates are 1-hour play times on the Hawks View playground and are simply a time for kids, parents & staff to get to know each other before the school year starts. Two dates will be selected and shared soon. More information will be shared with all registered kindergarten families via email over the summer.

The school day begins at 7:55 a.m. with doors opening at 7:45 for general arrival. Students eating breakfast at school may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. The school day ends at 2:15 p.m., with the exception of Wednesday when school dismisses at 1:15.

The Sherwood School Board has also approved our school calendars for the 23-24 school year. These calendars can be found on the district calendar webpage linked here.
