Greetings Lockerman Families,

Please join us this Wednesday for Content Night from 5-8pm. We will be showcasing student work and sharing ways you can support your child at home as we set our sights on the end of the first quarter. You will have an opportunity to visit math, science, social studies and English language arts centers as well as our media center which will feature a parent-child Makerspace activity. Each stop will help you complete your passport that will be turned in for prize drawings. There are great prizes to be won including gift baskets and a TV! Dinner is also provided for free! The entire family is welcome to join us. To help us plan for food, please RSVP today using this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVKWJNXATn2ZyhLb-rdzB4Auv8woE0WVjHQ5fxywRVQOC7aA/viewform?usp=header

Contact our Community School Coordinator, Rae Watkins, with any questions.

Many of our clubs are underway! We are happy to share that we have a late bus Tuesday-Thursday for any students staying for clubs, mentoring, or extra help/tutoring. The bus picks up from Lockerman at 4:45pm. Please see Mrs. Rae for a late bus permission form.

See below for other important information and updates. As always, please reach out if we can be of assistance.

Reminders Reminders

Any middle school student attending home football games at NCHS must be accompanied by an adult. Current high school students do not count. The adult must enter and stay at the game.

Students can not have gum at school. Please help us reinforce this in an effort to maintain cleanliness at Lockerman. There are no exceptions to this rule!

If your child is a car rider, please do not line up with the buses. Because we have two waves for drop off and pick up, this impedes traffic flow and could create a safety issue. In the morning, car riders should enter on Caroline Street and be dropped off at the crosswalk in the front of the school. Students should not cross between buses. Instead, they will gather at the town park entrance and wait to cross at the crosswalk.

Commitments

The Staff (SSIC) and Family (CAC) Advisory Committees of Caroline County Public Schools collaboratively developed specific commitment statements to promote a unified and supportive approach to your students' educational experiences. By acknowledging and committing to your child’s learning, both the principal and the family join together in a shared goal: fostering student success in education.

Parents/Guardians,

Please click the link below so that you are able to view and sign off on the commitment statements as a partner in your child's education because middle school matters!

Classroom Communication

To keep you informed and involved, we’re continuing to use Rooms, our two-way communication tool that helps you stay connected with your child’s teachers and school staff.

And this year, Rooms has improved some of their features:

  • SMS Text Notifications
You’ll now receive text message notifications whenever a new message or announcement is sent in Rooms. Each text includes a direct link to view the content in your mobile browser or in the app.

→ Click here to learn how to set your notification preferences.

  • One Messaging Inbox
Our school app has been updated to give you one, single place to see all of your messages across all children. From this inbox, you can read, reply, or start new messages. This feature is available through the CCPS App, available in the App Store and Google Play.

  • Upgraded Messaging Features
Our messaging experience now lets you react to messages with emojis, respond in threads, send photos and videos, mute group messages, and more!

Check out this overview of the new experience, or watch this short video (video in Spanish or click on Haitian Creole) to learn more about what’s new for this year.

We’re here to help make communication simpler, more consistent, and easier to manage this year! Please let us know if you have any questions.

October is full of important reminders about the health and well-being of our students, and our School-Based Health Centers with Choptank Community Health make it easy for our students to get the care they need right at school.

Here are three reminders to keep your children as healthy as they can be this October:

 Dental Hygiene Month: Healthy smiles mean fewer absences and more confidence. Our Centers offer education, checkups, and preventive care for enrolled students.

 National School Lunch Week: Good nutrition fuels learning. Balanced meals help students stay focused, energized, and ready to succeed, and our School-Based Health nutritionists are here to help along the way.

 Mental Health Awareness Week: Behavioral health matters, too. Counseling and support services are available to help students manage stress, build coping skills, and know they’re not alone.

It’s never too late to enroll your child in School-Based Health! Enrollment gives your student

access to medical, dental, nutrition, and behavioral health care during the school day.

Registration forms and additional information can be found at www.choptankhealth.org/school-based.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students healthy and thriving.

Emailing School & District Staff

Spam filters are designed to identify emails that attackers or marketers use to send unwanted or dangerous content. They also throw out malware, malicious, and virus-infested emails and protect user security. Unfortunately, spam filtering is an inexact science that at times blocks legitimate messages.

Should you send an email to a staff member and not receive a reply within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 48 hours), please call the office.
