We have an exciting Literacy Week planned for students!

This year's theme "Read White and Blue" celebrates literacy AND 250 years of America!

We are completing a "One School; One Book!" Challenge by reading How to Eat Fried Worms as a school. If every student completes the book and takes the AR test, Mr. Michie will eat a worm!

We also have themed dress up days, video read alouds from staff, and a community scavenger hunt with special videos and prizes!

Don't forget that our school will also be hosting author Jarrett Lerner on January 26.

SELF-AWARENESS AND SELF-MANAGEMENT SELF-AWARENESS AND SELF-MANAGEMENT

This month, the characteristic of the month is Self-Awareness and Self-Management.

What is Self-Awareness & Self-Management- Understanding and governing our thoughts,

actions and impact on others.

When we notice how we feel, such as being happy, sad, excited or worried, we are using our self-awareness skills. By knowing how we feel, we can express those needs to our parents, teachers or friends. Self-management is expressing our needs in a healthy way. Self-awareness and self-management help us understand our feelings, stay calm and solve problems.

The link below is a read aloud of I Am Ruby Bridges from the Resiliency Reading List to help students learn self-awareness and self-management skills and discuss healthy ways they can express how they are feeling.

Each month, Resiliency Florida features one of the 11 key Resiliency Characteristics as the Characteristic of the Month. Resiliency Florida is proud to provide resources for parents and teachers to start the conversation about overcoming life's inevitable challenges with their students. Help your student become resilient, go to BuildResiliency.org today!

User uploaded image

UPDATE If your child is not an every day bus rider, but may ride home with a friend or use bus to reach another approved destination, WE MUST have a parent note documenting this request on file. Please send an email to dleinfo@walton.k12.fl.us. We can also add this transportation change option for you in Pikmykid, but you must first contact our office.

Students have received bus tags for the back packs which support staff in quickly identifying the correct bus and parent. Please help us keep these securely fastened to your child's backpack.

You can track your student using the Here Comes the Bus Application. The Here Comes the Bus application provides the real-time location of your child’s bus on a map and gives scheduled and actual arrival times at home and school for bus routes. It also provides push and email notifications when the bus is near. Sign up using the flyers below.
